Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had trouble with chronic yeast infections? I've had a stubborn one for a couple months now and have tried the usual over the counter rememdies, as well as a 6-day course of Diflucan. My gyn said that the next step would be to do a month-long course of diflucan, but that she would want to speak with my gastro doc first.

Has anyone had similar problems?

No but I know acidopholis helps with that. Drink lots of water too.

No yeast infections but I used to get a bout of bacterial vaginosis EVERY month after my period. The bleeding would stop and the infection would start, it was terrible. I started wearing tampons only the first day or two of bleeding and then switching to pads (mainly because when I have my period I flare and it's aggravating having to change a tampon every time I use the bathroom when it's not ready to be changed) now I haven't had anymore problems. I also won't be intimate with my boyfriend until at least two days after my period. No one could ever tell me what the problem was but my non-medical opinion was that since the acidity changes down there during your period, and my immune system is already weakened and doesnt' fight off infections well, putting things in there was causing a change which caused the bacteria. I don't know if it's the same situation with you but it seems like having UC definitely could cause feminine problems as well...

I had some trouble with that, but my docs believed it was because of long term steroids (after a hospitalization w/ IV steroids). I took one Diflucan a week for 3 weeks, and it cleared up. I also had yeast in my esophagus, which made everything taste gross, and made it hard to swallow.

A good Probiotic helps reduce yeast.

I used to have re-occuring yeast infections but not since taking primadophilus reuteri probiotics everyday for my IBD and IBS, it even states on the bottle that it aids with lactose intolerance (which it does because mine was severe) high cholesterol (which it does because I no longer have to take meds for that) and vaginal health for women (which it does because I havn't had a single yeast infection since I started taking it 4ish yrs ago now and that's truly a record for me.

It's made by natures way and only one/day is needed and it's very affordable (in Canada I pay 29.00 for 90 caps) only thing is it must be kept cold (even when you purchase it, it must be in the store's fridge).

Even with probiotics, I still have an off-and-on chronic infection. None of the meds helped. Fortunately, once I got off Imuran it tapered down to just an occasional discharge. :-(

speaking of yeast infection..i have one that just wont go away. I tried monostat but that only worked for a couple weeks. it just came back about a week ago and my doctor wrote a prescription for fluconazole i just took it 2 days ago. The doctor said it was because of the prednisone. Are you taking any steriods?

Thanks for the tips everyone. I've been taking acidophollus pearls, but maybe I should up the frequency? I'm hoping to get in to see my doctor again tomorrow, or at least get a script called in. I'm not on any steroids right now, but my immune system is obviously still "off" given the 6-MP and Remicade. I hadn't had any problems at all with this until this one started, so I'm not sure what sparked it on....

Hi, I get chronic yeast infections, and had been trying to treat them myself for months.  I went to my GYN, and they applied gentian violet, which I have to tell you, worked...finally.  I had been trying the monostat, and even the pill (I forget the name) that is only by prescription, and you take one, and then a second three days later if the symptoms haven't subsided.  Nothing else worked, but the gentian violet was like a miracle cure for me.  That was back in December, and I haven't had one since.
