so last nite as I was putting in my enema, it went in real ez and and I squeezed the bottle and it sprayed all over me.  It took me a second to realize, I popped a hole in the darn thing w/my fingernail.  I try to be careful coz I got enuff prob's down there, but thank goodness my husband was not in bed yet, it would have scared the heck out of him!

I've done that - well not with my fingernail but since I have an internal hemmie I try to use some of that med to help coat that area closer to the rectum. Guess I went to far and ended squeezing it all over the bed. Needless to say, since I already had the med in me I don't like to move because it causes cramping so my poor hubby had to clean up the enema mess! The things our spouses will do for us eh? :)

Crazy question (maybe) - can't you do them over the toilet.  I have to do the suppositories over the toilet.  Elaine

The directions state for enemas that you have to lie on your left side while administering the med. You are also supposed to stay in the position for at least 30 minutes. This allows for the proper distribution of the medication. You don't have to do that with the suppositories because that is a semi solid med for the rectum. The enemas are designed to go higher up to at least the sigmoid maybe a bit beyond.

Thank you!  I remember now that is one reason I could not use the enemas - thought of it after I ask.  I am too obese and have arthritis and cannot reach that area for the enemas which I know the doctor thinks would help me more than the suppositories. I am always happy my toilet is only a couple feet from my bed!

 Thinking he will add Asacol pills when I see him in a few days.  Elaine

That was funny.

Anyone do this???!!!!! I put the enema in and pushed and pushed it and it was not coming out and then I realized I left the lid on it.... YIKES!!

Beth - I ended up with a similar situation - however, it was the bottle that broke when I folded it over to try to squeeze out the last of it!
