switching asa'a?

hi people! I am thinking of swapping my Asacol to give Lialda a try- have been on Asacol since initial diagnosis- swore it wasn't doing anything (this was in '06), went off it, went into horrible year + flare, just now coming into some semblance of remission. I think. Anyway- clearly the Asacol is helping- have been back on since Fall of '06. I'm worried though- has anyone ever switched to a different asa & then gone into a fairly bad flare? One requiring steroids? I'm at the end of the med rops, so to speak, & I'm afraid if I switch things around, & something goes wrong... well then what do I do? I know some people have done better on Lialda then on Asacol- have any of you done worse?

yah, mine too! But I can't help but think "What if the Lialda works better?". I don't really see how the ASA's differ from one another- people claim they target different areas of the colon- doctos disagree. Where do you find this info, comparing asa's? All the stuff I read basically says they're all the same, just different doseages, manufacturers, etc.

thanks for the link! I'm still a little leery about switching, & not sure if I want to try it. My GI swears all asa's are the same. And on the drup webpages, they don't claim to be any different from any other asa's. Who knows!

While doing my own digging, I came across this study- once you get past the case study, it's good as far as comparing the 5asa's. They do say repeatedly that there is no significant difference between the asa's- that's what I've found in all the stuff I've come up with on the 'net.

I switched from Asacol to Lialda a few weeks ago, and there seems to be no difference between the two. But it is pretty awesome to only take meds one time per day!
