Well I went to new doc today and got a prescription for new medicine, IMURAN.   I was wondering if anyone else has had good results with IMURAN.  I've been taking Entocort when I'm in a Flare for 10 days than tapering.  He told me today (since I'm in a flare now) to take  3 entocort for a month and then 2 for the next month and than 1 for a month.  I'm to stay on the Asacol too.  I'm keeping my finger crossed that this IMURAN works.  Looking forward to good days.

Imuran is a medication that a lot of us are or have been on. The reason he's tapering your Entocort that way is that it takes about three months for the Imuran to become effective. You should be having blood tests at least monthly for a while to check for side effects of the drug; it can cause liver problems and depress your white count.

Imuran has been very helpful for a lot of people. Hope it works well for you.

Hi Judilyn, Thanks for that information. I'm glad to hear that Imuran has been helpful to a lot of people. He already set up an appointment for me for a blood test in four weeks. I'm hoping for good results. Hope you're having good days. Arlene

I'm one of the people it works well for,hopefully you will be too!Just be patient and allow it time to "kick in",and make sure you get regular blood's done.It's rare to experience the worst side effects,but they need to be caught quickly if they occur.Don't let it worry you,just keep up the blood work and put it out of your mind.You will generally see Imuran referred to here as Azathioprine,it's generic name.6mp(mercaptopurine)is a similar thing,and has the same action on the immune system.

I've never been on it, but I hope you see positive results from it.

Silent Lucidity...how long have you been on the azathioprine? Do you take it in the evening or morning? I don't like the bad side effects I read about but so many medicines out there have some bad side effects. I'm going to put that out of my mind and concentrate on feeling better. We're getting ready to go on vacation and I want to go feeling well.

Hi Arlene....yeah, reading the side effects can definitely be scary. But, some will have many, others will have none.

I hope you feel better before your vacation....you both deserve it!!

Hi quincy...You're right about scary side effects but at this point I'm living my life around my bm's. I was becoming house bound and that was starting to really get to me. I pray that this change in meds will be helpful and I'll keep praying that those side effects won't happen to me. I'll be sure to keep up on checking my blood work. We're hoping to head up to Pennsylvania for 5 weeks and looking at leaving this Tues. When I get my computer hooked up up there I'll let you know how I'm doing. Like you said...we're both deserving of this vacation. HealingWell is such a great place. It has done so much for me. I get a lot of comfort knowing that there are people out there that care how I feel and know what I'm going through. I know when I get down and out I think well I'll get on the computer and see what they have to say....you always make me feel better. You're a good person quincy, like everyone else at this forum.
