I have just recently began to think that the joint pain in my hands is related to my UC...In the past, I have never really given it any thought because of the job I have...I work an incredibly physical job...Very repetitive, and heavy...I feel sure that some of the annoying pain has to do with my job, there is no doubt...But I find this wierd...Some days the pain will be in both of my thumbs, then maybe another day, the pain will be in my middle finger and not my thumbs, and now for the past few days, the pain has been in one of my ring fingers...I know this is kind of a wierd post, but I just can't figure it out...Why does it keep switching around like that...Can someone please tell me what you think...By the way, I am in a minor flare right now...

I'm not exactly sure, but my doctor told me that UC is an auto-immune disease and as such makes me more susceptible (sp) to other things like arthritis. I know you are young but some young people do get arthritis. It is worth mentioning it to your doctor next time you are there. I hope you feel better soon. Bellski

bk1579 - I have some extreme hand pains too. However, mine started YEARS before I was dx'd with UC. After my dx, I was doing some reading and found that it's not uncommon... I felt almost vindicated.

My joint pain also jumps joints. On day a certain finger on one hand - the next day another finger on another hand - then a knee - or an ankle - a wrist...

I have no idea why it does what it does. I use Tylenol and Aspercreme as necessary. Warm moist heat helps too. I've also used paraffin hand treatments in the past.

I recently posted a question about joint pain and UC. Mine started about 5 weeks ago, a month AFTER the flare up had subsided. It has been very upsetting to me. It started with my knees, then feet, ankles, wrists and now fingers. My left index finger is very swollen and hurts. I can hardly bend it. Other fingers are also sore and a bit swollen. I agree that it moves around. One day the thumbs hurt, then my left wrist, etc. Somedays my knees and feet are so bad,I can hardly walk. Until this started, I didn't know arthritis came with UC. I have had the disease for 30 years,with on and off flare ups, but never any joint pain. I went to my reg.Dr.,who did a blood screen for Rheu. Arth., LYme Disease and other things, everything came back normal. Something is causing me this terrible joint pain. I'm sorry you also are going through what I am. my gastro. said take Advil, butI am very nervous about it. It helps but only a bit. I'm worried it might cause a flare. I have an appt.with a Rhuematoligist in 3weeks. Don't know if I can stand this that long!( the 1st Rheu.Dr told me they couldn't see me until Oct16! I called someone else!)
