Eye Inflammation:My New "Gift"!

So this last week has seen me make several visits to the eye clinic,with some very painful Scleritis.I had been getting recurrent "pink eye" for the last six months,but it never bothered me and always went away in about 3-4 days.Well this time was different,a sickening pain that felt like my eyeball was being squeezed and impossible to go out in daylight without closing the affected(right)eye.

It's been 3 days of Pred eye drops every hour and now every two hours until I get a checkup next Monday.That's as well as a steroid ointment at bedtime and pupil dilation drops twice a day.It seems almost certain that this is related to the UC.Anyone else here had/having similar problems?

Can I tell you that I also have "the gift" and I will tell you that since this UC has brought such joy to my life the pain I experience when my eye acts up, is the WORST pain ever, I cant even stand it, it happens to me about 4-7 times per year and it is just the worst pain ever, people dont undersrand it, I would "run" to the bathroom 60 times /day if my eye would never get inflammed again!!!! I have about 6 diffent eye drops but none of them take away the pain, so I do what every bad UC'er does I take Advil, yup, I said it!! Its the only thing that relieves the pain, I want to dig my eye out with a melon baller when it acts up, sometimes its the right eye, sometimes its the left, guessing when it happens is half the fun!!! My opthamologist loves me I think I am putting his kids through college. In any event, I talked with both my GI and opthamologist and they both said do what works, so I take the advil as the pred gtts had little to no effect...Hope this helps, and I hope you dont get it again!

Thanks for the replies.It's much better and not bothering me now,but my most recent exam still revealed inflammation.Hence I have to carry on taking the drops and go for a checkup next week.Is Advil Ibuprofen?I was taking Ibuprofen when it was bad and it did help.I don't find Ibuprofen upsets me,UC wise,so if I need it I take it!

Thanks for the kind words Sherry,I'm feeling much better.What worries me is the possibility of this re-occurring.As most people here know,Colitis is a chronic condition,so one gets used to an illness flaring up from time to time.Being as the Scleritis is related to the UC,it's reasonable to assume this won't be an isolated incident.

To be honest I haven't,to my knowledge,suffered from UC related stuff much in the past.This is definitely the worst thing I've had yet(unless the Peri-Anal abscess was due to UC,then that would have to count as very worst!),and has come hot on the heels of my recent "upgrade" from Procto-Sigmoiditis,to Pancolitis.Maybe when the Azathioprine kicks in it will help keep stuff like this at bay.
