Hi.  When administering the rowasa enemas does the medicine drip down your left side of the colon or does it fill up your rectum like a water balloon?  Just curious.  Also, I have been on them for over 4 months and bleeding comes and goes still.  I am currently on Lialda 4 times a day and rowasa at night.  Should I ask my doctor for something stronger or live w/ it the way it is?  I go about 2, 3 or 4 tiems a day.  Thanks for your input.

It should disperse to the sigmoid colon if you lie on left side for about half an hour after inserting. When was your most recent c-scope and what extent of inflammation did it show? That would clue the doctor to the type of medication you need. Also, your bloodwork should be done periodically to help determine what continuing treatment you need. Bleeding that comes & goes could be hemorrhoids, rather than flaring, but you should definitely mention it to your doctor. If you are "going" 2-4 times daily without urgency or pain, you might benefit from some adjustments to diet that would bulk up your waste. Some members here use Metamucil daily for that, or plain boiled rice, oatmeal, etc. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)
