So- I've been on Remicade since January 2007 and since after my third infusion I had really great results. Then in March 2008 I started a full blown flare- 15x a day, blood, misery- the whole UC package. My GI puts me on prednisone (30 mg) and gives me my Remi 10 days early- then puts me back on every 8 weeks for Remi. I manage to taper off pred, then have about a week of flaring which then mysteriously disappears, and then I was good and made it to my next Remi. After my Remicade I made it three weeks before I began to flare, with a gradual increase in my symptoms. At least 10x a day, blood, and I was up 2-3x per night. My GI puts me back on prednisone (30 mg) and moves my Remi up two weeks early.
Remi this past Thursday- GI puts me on a slower taper than usual (down 5 mg every two weeks) and schedules my next Remicade for eight weeks out. Instead of changing my Remicade to a six week schedule, he decided that my Remi dose will be changed from 5mg per kilogram to the 10 mg per kilogram dose. My GI states that he is "optimistic" that this approach will get my UC symptoms under control and that Remicade will remain an effective med for me. Personally, I am doubtful- I think it will only delay the inevitable- that I am done with Remicade.
My question- have other Remis experienced a dosage change on Remicade and what results good or bad did they see from the change?
