I have been without ANY symptoms now for 4 months.

I am on no meds.

I can live life like any "normal" person.

I can go to restaurants, fairs, and walks in the park.

I have a normal bowel movement in the AM after breakfast.

I may or may not have one more before bed.

 Normal stool.

But every single day, I am waiting for it to come back.

What is the longest you have been in "remission".

How awesome you're feeling great!! remission is individual...some have had it for months, others have had it for years. Some with meds, some with no meds.

It'll come back eventually, and the first symptoms might be constipation, excess gas, hard pebble stools or pencil thin stools. If those symptoms are consistent and increasing, you might want to start rectal meds.

Enjoy the time you're feeling good...it's something we all do. It's normal to dread the next flare. I curse when it happens...but I'm always ready and prepared. It took me 2+ years to get it all figured out to use meds earlier rather than waiting and hoping my symptoms would go away.


Don't create undue suffering just because...it serves no purpose unless you're ready. If you're not...then you need a plan. Otherwise, live your life!

you start thinking it about it too much and it will come back cuz that is what you manifesting.

The longest for me was a year, don't worry about when your next flare will be, just enjoy life!

I've been in remission a long time....just enjoying each day! As I always say, life is short, so live each day to the fullest!

5 yrs was my longest so far.

As i am just getting back into remission and just got a great job I understand waiting for the shoe to drop. When i start having those feelings I try to think about my new job or some plans I have coming up. Doens't always work but it helps.

Thanks everyone!

My biggest hope is that it will stay in remission until my Vegas trip the first week of Oct.

Last year when we went, everything had to be planned out around bathrooms(which you can all relate to)

You probably spent tons of time thinking about your UC while you were in a flare, so use this time to enjoy yourself and focus on more fun stuff! Enjoy your freedom and use it to its fullest potential!! Congrats on your remission!!

PS.  Whenever I worry about something that's out of my hands, I try to remember to only worry when there's something to worry about.  :-)

I wouldn't say it is guaranteed that you will flare up again. I know in a few RARE cases that some people have a primary flare-up and then have little to no troubles after that. I'd suggest be prepared, but don't dwell on it. I'm in remission now (off pred. for 3 months) and still think about it daily. It is hard not to, but worrying about it does no good, especially when feeling well. Good luck!

Don't think about it and enjoy yourself. I know people that have been in remission for 20 years. Keep holding on for the new drugs that will be coming out. Congrats on feeling great. Get out and do something fun. Joe

Definitely....but always be ready and bring your meds with you on your trip.
