OT- jury duty?

Do you think having active ulcerative colitis is good enough reason to be excused from jury duty?

I've never registered to vote based on the sole fact that I was told you couldn't be called for jury duty if you weren't, but I opened my mailbox today and there it was... summoned for duty on 9/11/08. You've got to be kidding me!!

I think it's more my social anxiety that's making me not want to do it than anything but I don't want to do this! Just the idea of it freaks me out and makes me feel sick. Any advice??

I also think you can get out of it with a note from your GI.

The idea of sitting there all day without a poo break totally stresses me out and I haven't even been summoned for JD.

I just dealt with this a couple months ago. My doc wouldn't write me a note to excuse me, because he said, "The whole point is to get you well enough to be able to do things like that." I was tempted to say, "You haven't made it happen for the last six months, why would it be better by the time jury duty comes?" He's such an idiot.

I hope you have a more sympathetic doctor. When I did my jury duty, I ate a bland breakfast (just toast) and brought a big bag of pretzels with me to munch on throughout the day. I never had a problem with needing to go to the bathroom. You may want to speak with the clerk about your needs before going into the courtroom.

BTW, the jury duty experience was so fascinating and educational that I actually wouldn't mind doing it again.

I've been called once for jury duty in my life. My husband has probably received at least eight notices. Our son with UC received one when he was 18; go figure. Of course they picked him to serve on the jury too. He did tell them of his condition and told them that he'd probably be using the bathroom quite often. They said it was fine, so them kept him on the case. He loved it and said he learned a lot about the legal system in the process. They had him give a special signal when he had to 'go'.
