Have you had hair loss with asacol ?

my hair was getting thin on top but in the last week its noticably worse or Im noticing it more. Ive only been on this med for 2 weeks could it be related?

I have really thin hair as it is but when I was on asacol I notice my hair everywhere, I was shedding like crazy. I didn't seem to have a noticeable difference in appearance (or not that I can remember, but I also didn't remember having moonface my first long time on pred... until I saw the pictures..) but I was definitely losing a lot more than usual.

I have had a very slight hair loss with lialda and I think it is continuing with Asacol. I don't miss it though so it is not an issue

If you know the character Roseanne Roseannadana for saturday night live (almost 30 year ago) and you remember her hair, then you have an idea why I don't mind losing some of mine. I have bushels of hair.

yep... assuming Asacolon is the same as asacol....just different country? My hair is all over the place. Thankfully I have lots of it but at this rate I won't for much longer. Not clumps but if I grab a bunch of my hair I'll have about 10 or 12 stands each time. The shower is always full of hair too. Hopefully it will ease off after a while she says in hope.

Not yet (knock on wood as I hit my head lol) and I've been on asacol or lialda for over a year

what else could be causing this hair loss ? what type of doctor do you go to for hair loss?

I have been on asacol for a year now and when I first started taking it I lost ALOT of my hair.My hair has always been very thick so It didnt bother me much-but I didnt want to loose any more. It will slow down I think It was in the first few months that It fell out, and it will grow back. I noticed all these sprigs sticking out when I would pull it back into a ponytail.

I havent taken the medicne the last few days because Im doing fine and I can see my scalp so I cant NOT lose anymore hair.

i definitely experienced hair loss while on asacol.  i also never got better on asacol.  i complained all the time to my GI that i was taking so many pills for the disease but still going to the bathroom up to 15 times per day and was sick sick sick.  finally i switched GI's and eventually we decided to stop taking mesalimine.  i stopped losing my hair immediately and i also am less sick...i have never again had a 15 bowel movement day...after years of days like that.  i can still do up to 5 with a lot of belly pain, but some days i am good...i was never good while on asacol.

I am loosing my hair by the second. So much, that people started to notice, I am trying Regain for woman and I just started to take Biotin to see if this 2 remedies can stop this secondary effect from Asacol. I will post in 2 months with the results.

I see this question posted a lot. Hair loss with Asacol must be quite common.

I've been dealing with UC for almost 6 years now- during which I've had 2 (1 year long) flares and the other 4 years have been pretty much symptom free. During those years I have been on Asacol (3 years) and then Mezavant (3 years) - both mesalamine meds. I did experience about 1 year of substantial hair loss. Luckily I have very thick hair so it was not visibly noticeable for others but it was scary for me, The drain cover trap would be clogged every time I showered. It started about 4 months into my 2nd flare and lasted nearly a year as well - now it has all grown back in (I have medium length hair so it was a bit funny to have all these baby hairs sticking out all over my head!). I have not yet figured out it is was due to the flare itself, the prednisone I took for 8 months or the increase dosage of mesalamine.

SO hair loss and this disease/ treatment definitely are connected in my opinion, but the good news is it does grow back :) Good luck

If it's thinning overall and not in patches, it will probably come back. Have any sprouts that you see.

Often we lose hair a few months after an attack of illness. Because we are taking asacol to treat a flare and maintain remission, it can mislead us into thinking its just the asacol causing the hair loss.

Mine came back... took a year and a half though

I was losing tons of hair for about 5 months...not sure if it was the disease, pred, or asacol. I started to take Biotin caps and it seems to have slowed down but it is a lot thinner....my daily pony tail used to only take 3 times around with the elastic, now is sometimes takes 4. i think I may chop it and start over!
