Anyone here ever take KEFLEX?

Hello! My family doctor just prescribed me Kelfex (cephalixin) for a urinary tract infection. I know I need to get rid of the UTI, but I am really afraid to take it for fear that it will make my UC worse. Anyone ever take Keflex..and did you have any problems? Thanks!

I've taken it before for UTIs, and I didn't seem to have any serious UC related problems. I was in so much pain with the infection that I really didn't care whether it made me flare worse or not, I didn't want it to progress to a kidney infection. UTIs are miserable.

Taking a good dose of probiotics at least four hours after the Keflex will help repopulate your colon with good bacteria and hopefully help prevent overgrowth of the "bad" ones. If you aren't alerady taking some, you should be able to get Culturelle at a local pharmacy. I always take twice the recommended dosage when on antibiotics.

You really do have to take care of the UTI - don't put your kidneys at risk. You can live without your colon, but not without your kidneys.

Hi!

Due to my allergies and adverse drug reactions, Keflex is about the only one I can tolerate. I find that I pass the drug 'smell' when go to the toilet, even to urinate. I've never had it make myUC worse so hopefully it will be ok for you.
