UC & Lyme Disease Treatment

Hi There,  My husband has recently been diagnosed with Lyme Disease.  He has UC that is in remission (and has been off meds for UC for many years).  He cannot take antibiotics without flaring big time.  Has anyone out there been treated with antibiotics for Lyme or is currently doing so?  Thanks!

The antibiotic effect (killing bacteria) can be corrected with good probiotics (adds back good bacteria), from what I've read.

My mom is on high doses of doxicyclone for Lyme and she has a "normal" digestive system. With doxi you can't eat right before or after the pill. It is tearing up her digestive track. She is naseuas all the time. Her doc now said she can have 3 crackers or so with the pill. She should be done with her course soon but I remember her specifically telling me "wow, you could never take this." It might be something to discuss with the doc.

Hi Fitzy,  Thanks for your reply.  Yes we are 95% sure it's Lyme--pretty much classic case with bull's eye and all the rest of the symptoms.  We are waiting for an appt. with a Lyme expert, and hopefully he will have had a patient with UC and Lyme before, but I thought I would post to see if anyone on this forum has had to deal with this situation.  Leaving the Lyme untreated would be detrimental to his health, but the traditional 30 day Doxy treatment could also nearly kill him.  He has used probiotics with Abxs, but they have not proven to work well enough with his system and the Abxs have sent him into a UC tailspin.  Dam*ed if you do and Dam*ed if you don't!  Thanks again.  If we get answers from the MD I can post if anyone has any interest.
