I feel that many of us add things to our drug regimine to see what works and what doesn't work.  For example, enzymes, probiotics, etc............Do many of you use immodium or anything else for the D?

Thinking of adding nicotine patch (don't want to go back to smoking, but if nicotine helps then I will be able to try it and keep my quit) and thinking of adding immodium!

I don't know that I would use immodium on a regular basis, I think long term use can increase the risk of toxic mega colon.

I use one-half a pill in the mornings, just before leaving the house, when I'm flaring (only then). It helps calm things a little, but doesn't completely stop things so I think would avoid that toxic colon thing. One whole pill makes me uncomfortable, I only do that when I have to run a meeting or it will be difficult or awkward to find a bathroom. I haven't used two pills at once in years. Remember the bottle directions are meant for people with an accutate case of D, not chronic.
A few other remedies for the D have been mentioned here, too, but that's what I do. I've thought about trying the metamucil (pills, because the wafers have gluten).

I add a certain substance which apparently is unmentionable here, it begins with an "m". Tremendously effective.

I've only used Immodium a couple times, and that was when I had a presentation and when I had unending diarrhea not related to UC. I've been told NOT to use it if I'm bleeding.

I use immodium when I have to go somewhere early in the mornings, it does give me a little stomach upset. but it serves its purpose.

Hey Gigi, what about increasing your fibre a little more? Do this slowly of course, like every second day take a little more than what you're already taking everyday and then after about a week (or how ever long it's taken for you to adjust to the increase) then just start taking the increased amount daily.

The GI doctor told my son he could take Immodium when he was going to PA from SC (9 or 10 hours) in a 14 passenger van to play lacrosse . I worried a lot about that trip, but thanks to Immodium, he did pretty well.

My doctor often prescribes Imodium according to my NP.  I take only 1/2 at a time early morning when I have to go out. Use it when traveling also as little as possible and eat very light. It never makes me constipated and things seem to keep moving along which is the risk - causing megacolon.  Please run it by your doctor - we are all so different.

The Herbal form of Imodium is Bael Fruit Capsules and won't cause Toxic Megacolon as it is natural I think.

My doctor also said I can't use Immodium if I'm bleeding.

My GI must be crazy cuz he's totally fine with it. He told me that just as long as I don't go over the recommended dosage it's fine. I haven't ever had a problem with it. Without it I probably wouldn't have made it through high school.

I so agree Sam.  I am fifty years older than you are and so thankful for Imodium in the appropriate doseage - as little as works for you.  My doctors over the years have recommended it for IBS and now UC.  Everyone should, however, talk with their doctors about using it - we all have somewhat different conditions and systems.
