Hi Charles,
Have you seen a GI doctor? You didn't state too much info as to the extent of your "flare-up". I've been in a flare since the end of March. I was hospitalized for ten days in May. My meds consist of Colazal, prednisone (can't seem to taper off this), 6 MP and nightly Canasa suppositories. Unfortunately, I still "go" seven or eight times each morning, or sometimes every other morning and still see bright red blood. I've seen a colorectal surgeon in addition to my GI doctor but was told I was not a candidate for surgery...yet. I'm not in any pain, but do have some cramping along with the bowel movements. I haven't tried the special diet they speak of in this forum and maybe I should. I avoid spicey and fried foods.
Please submit a little more information. The people in this forum are very helpful, considerate and kind. I'm sure we will all do our best to try give you some useful information to aid in your recovery.
By the way, I was diagnosed with UC in 1998 and have had flare-ups every one to two years. Lately, every year. My GI doctor was pushing Remicade, but I know I am not a candidate for it as I was exposed to the TB virus back in the 50's and have had a positive reaction to the skin test in the past. Remicade can reactivate the TB virus and have fatal results. I also have read a lot of these posts and it seems to me that Remicade is NOT a cure, so why should I take that chance?
