Hi red_34,

Its been a while since i've posted, untill a few days ago that is...

I couldnt help noticing your signature saying you've had colitis since 1992, how have you kept positive?Did you have your children before or after you condition? Also i've only had one colonoscopy since i was diagnosed, is that normal? How many have you had? And what works for you?

Sorry about all the questions, im just a little all over the place at the moment!And you seem to know your stuff...

I wasn't always so positive nor am I now. I have my ups and downs like everyone else. I just keep my downs a bit more quiet :) The only one that I allow to see my down times is my hubby because he is the only one that can make me feel better.

I had my son before being diagnosed and my daughter after. It wasn't easy to raise my daughter, especially while flaring. But my son helped me a great deal by getting things for his sister or playing with her and such. He's such a great kid! Hmm okay, maybe he isn't a kid anymore since he's 17 now but to me he will always be my little boy :)

I had my initial scope to determine my diagnosis. Another around 8 years when I was flaring badly and now that I am past my 10 year, I have to have one every 2 years. But in between the colonoscopies, I've had my fair share of sigmoidoscopies. Every year to be exact.

The only thing that works for me at the moment is Colazal, 6mp and steroid enemas. I can't tolerate Asacol/Lialda, Rowasa or Canasa.

You know what's weird? I was thinking about you the other day! I still have you on Myspace and I was going to check on you to see how you were doing but then I got distracted.

I've had a busy year, married now, been training to be a teacher too so i have been occupied quite a bit. Things been a bit stressful...
Your lucky you have a loving family, I wonder sometimes how longer i can cope or handle things myself let alone what husband will be in for!I feel guilty im so unwell just after we've got married and hes having to support me alone!
I have been to a natrupath once, but i never followed up on her dietary advice, its just hit and miss as to what works and what doesn't and for how long!
I want to have another colonscopy done, although the waiting for the results will be nerve wracking, but my GI says i've got a few mre yrs before i need one. Is there a possibility a colonscopy can trigger a flare up?
P.S were you on any meds when you were pregnant with you girl?

I don't think it's so much that a cscope can trigger a flare but I do believe that the prep may aggravate things a little maybe even bring one on.

As for handling things on your own - don't! If you have help do not be afraid to ask for it. It took me many years to figure that one out. You have a chronic illness, it is NOT your fault that it happened. If you husband truly loves you then he will not have any issues with helping you out. Have you ever asked him what you having UC means to him?

Yes, I was on Asacol with my daughter. I was in remission until about 6 months after I had her and then all heck broke loose. I was able to tolerate Asacol then btw.

And congrats on the marriage and becoming a teacher! Do you know which grade(s) you want to teach yet?
