IBD markers in blood tests

after 10 months on remicade and decent pictures on last scope but not remission, my GI told me after I asked him to test me for antibodies, that all of my markers for IBD are negative......I almost took his head off cause this remi makes me feel terrible for a week after infusion.....he thinks due tomy picture my problems are IBS and hemmies.....I told him it feels like my body wants to rid itself of the remi....but he insists due to the pictures it is working.....IBD markers negative???  ANyone ever heard of this?  leads me to think my prob is bacterial and not autoimmune...any thoughts?

I don't know exactly what markers say IBD that might not also say something else.

What markers exactly are you talking about and what are the readings?

If you feel worse with Remi....stop taking it.


Wy would he give it to you if you just have ibs?

Or am I reading it all wrong in that you're saying that the remi has helped the IBD?

Bacterial...hmmmm, can be checked out. We all have a balance of bad and good bacteria in our guts. If you have one that's not in check, a stool sample should help.

Are you taking probiotics? if yes, which ones?

If you are talking about the Prometheus IBD test - my son tested negative on it, but scope, biopsies and annual flares tell a different story. I have heard that the current test is supposedly more accurate than the older one that my son had. My daughter had the newer test and she is positive for UC.

What did the biopsies say? My son's doctor goes by those more than the blood test?

Ditto what keylime said: I took the Prometheus IBD test and had negative results, but scope, biopsies, and symptoms say otherwise. My doctor said the Prometheus tests are supposed to be accurate 90% of the time, but he feels it's more like 80% of the time.

The scope and biopsies are the gold standard for diagnosis of IBD, as I understand it.

I had the Prometheus test done in July, and it came back as not consistent with either UC or Crohn's. One month later I had a c-scope and biopsies done, and it showed I was in a full blown flare. I could've (and did) told them that! The Prometheus test is not 100%. If you are being treated for IBD but only have IBS you have my sympathy. As Heather mentioned, are you taking any probiotics? If not, you might want to look into some. You also might want to look into a different doc if he's confusing IBS with IBD.

I had a prometheus test done, but it was to measure how well I was metabolizing the Imuran. I don't know if any IBD markers showed up or not, my GI never mentioned that part of it to me. I think he too feels that scopes, symptoms, & biopsies are the true diagnostic markers for IBD. As opposed to IBS, they certainly are!

Prometheus Labs do a variety of tests, so just because you had a blood test done by them doesn't mean they were checking for IBD markers. Scopes and biopsies are the best diagnostic tool for IBDs by far.

I think something might be going wrong here in your doctor's and your communication.  Are you sure he thinks you just have IBS and hemmies? 

If my doctor was giving me remicade for IBS, I'd definitely be looking for a new doctor.

I test negative for C Reactive Protiens and I have Pancolitis

I have to wonder too. I was bleeding and had a clean scope. But the bleeding continued for a year. They told me hemmies and IBS. When I started to fill the toilet several times a day w blood I begged for another test. They found it that time.
