Can Enema's irritate hemmoroids?

I have to say my Asacol Enema worked a treat for 10 days (stopped bleeding) and then I think I hurt myself putting it in one night and lots of blood suddenly out of nowhere came out.

Can Enema's irritate hemmoroids or even irritate the lining of he rectum where the inflammation is?

From my understanding some rectal meds are suppose to be helpful with hemmies, like cortifoam, I've personally never had luck with asacol anything.

     My GI doctor told me they actually help heal the hemorrhoids, but I hear what you are saying.  I hurt myself inserting a cort enema one time.  You have to be extremely gentle.

The steroid enemas can help a hemmie but not sure about a 5-ASA enema. You can try squeezing a bit of the liquid out as you are inserting to help ease the passage as well as use vaseline or any other lubricant on the tip - this will make it more comfortable. I have an internal one and I've had to use this method when I am on the enemas or I hurt myself.

I ask the question as I have internal hemmorhoids and it hurts when I insert that irritating and sharp straw tube into me. I am using Asacol Foam Enema and it works well but the bleeding has returned more recently. I feel 100% well, no mucous or D, just blood on stools and tissue. So maybe it's irritating the hemmies?

Also, I thought it was only steroid enemas that helped hemmies? Has anyone used steroid enemas? Is there any long term side effects?

I got my probiotics today - digestive advantage - will keep you updated.

awww oweee. I have to tell you that the canasa things hurt me! I have to rub/melt them a little because they can have rough edges. I have heard people use vitamin e to help. Or Aloe?

Aloe Elite I bought, very expensive and did nothing for me or do you mean lubricate with aloe? The sharp edges really hurt.

yes, lubricate with aloe. I have heard it really helps with the healing too.
