Immodium = Liquid Stool??

The past few days I've been having nothing but liquid stool. And not like the usual liquid stool I have, it's actually more like I just took a bowel prep... There's a strange difference, where you don't strain or anything it just kind of pours out, and it feels... weird... And on top of it my stomach/intestines have been making the most ridiculous gurgling noises.

Hopefully you all know what I'm talking about because I'm confusing myself here! LOL

Then this morning the first liquid BM had a HORRIBLE smell; seriously it smelled like a dead animal or something redface And I usually don't have particularly foul BM's and I know that's usually a sign of something going on...

The only thing different I've done is taken Imodium Advanced the past like two days or so, which I haven't taken in awhile but I've never had this problem with it before.

Any ideas what could be going on in my guts?

Oh yeah, there's blood every time, and it's also usually an orangish color and I've had nothing orange. I think it's maybe because there's a lot of blood mixed in and the brown mixing with the red makes orange? Who knows.

Have you been on any antibiotics lately? Are you experiencing extreme urgency (not like you need to go, more like you need to go 10 seconds ago!)? Are these raunchy smelling movements occurring regularly through out the day, like more than hourly? Does it look kind of oily?

I've had bacterial infections before (giardia and c diff) and both caused very liquidy, stinky-icky moevements. I never had any blood from the giardia, but I believe that I had that before I began being symptomatic of UC. The c diff infection caused the above mentioned symptoms.

I'm not trying to freak you out at all, but you might want to get a stool culture done if your symptoms start to get worse. And I'd recommend staying away from the Immodium. Diarhea is the bodies way of expelling toxic waste, and by using Immodium, you are making your body retain that badness.

I know that the relief of not having the diarhea for a day or two is a great break, but I only use it on extremely special occasions. What you are describing is exactly the opposite of how Immodium works, but I'd still be careful of taking it.

I hope that things start to get back to the normal smell and consistency for you. It feels strange wishing someone pleasant bowel movements, but I guess here it is a goal to reach for. lol

Woooo Weeeeee! Do I know what your talking about! Back in August I had dinner @ a Mexican food restaurant. I started with the gurgling and discomfort within hours. Nothing but "water" for a week, and the smell was unbearable! I had the same thing that I always eat there. My GI figured I probably picked up bad bacteria that wouldn't have effected most people, but for me it was nuclear! I started taking Immodium. It was a God send! Then I started slamming probiotics. Quadruple what I normally take. It took several weeks but it went away. The Doc wanted me to take a stool sample in....uh....no thanks. All is fine now. The smell was indescrible tho. I told my GI it was somewhere between a skunk and and outhouse shakehead

I have the usual amount of urgency, sometimes it is pretty intense but it hasn't been TOO bad. I haven't been on any antibiotics in a long time.
I have had some other weird things going on, particularly the fact that I've had a light period for two weeks now.. I wasn't even "supposed" to get it because I'm on the NuvaRing and I had it in for three weeks and instead of taking it out and having my period, I just started a new one but I started spotting like the next day and it hasn't stopped since. Ugh.

I'm probably just falling apart as usual, lol

I have absolutely no input about any weird female things going on with you. Not exactly my area of expertise.

When you say "I haven't been on any antibiotics in a long time.", does mean weeks, months, years? Have you spent much time recently in hospitals, hospices, or nursing homes? Aside from that though, you don't sound like you have a bacterial infection. Just try to watch what you eat, and be sure to stay hydrated. Perhaps drink some gatorade to replace electrolytes.

You might also want to start taking a probiotic. It could be that there are just enough bad bacteria in your gut that they are taking over, but with some regular infusions of good bacteria, things might start to turn around.

I have had a year of what you are describing. No evidence in stools or colonoscopy of a cause. Have been takin Culturelle for a month and it seems to help a lot. Could you have a serious bacteria imbalance and need heavy probiotics to restore a balance??
