My surgery is set for tomorrow at 8:00am. I had the last week off work to prepare our house for winter. I would normally do this in the first few weeks of November but I don’t think I’ll have the strength then. The doctor told me no heavy lifting for 2 months after surgery. I put the patio furniture and gas grill away, brought the hoses inside and turned off the outside water. I cleaned the garage so I can put the car inside. I mowed the lawn for the last time this year. I even did minor repairs on the snow blower and started it to make sure it is ready for the first snow, usually the end of November or beginning of December. My next door neighbor said he will clear my snow for me. I told him he can use my snow blower for both my driveway and his. I also caught up on a little painting.

Last night I saw a movie on the movie network that I think most people going into surgery wouldn’t want to see, “Awake” staring Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba. The description of the movie said: “A patient suffers "anesthetic awareness" and finds himself awake and aware, but paralyzed, during surgery”. I couldn’t resist so I watched the movie. It really wasn’t as hard to watch as I first thought.

Yesterday for dinner we went to Kelsey’s restaurant and I had a 12 oz sirloin steak dinner. It was delicious. This morning at 9:00am I drank the first glass of Fleet phosphasoda. It tasted terrible but it was only one small glass. I have been drinking water all day long. I will take the second and last one in another 15 minutes.

Thanks everyone. I have to be at the hospital at 6:00am. I will have to get up at 4:45am. A little early for me, especially when I have to take Cipro and Flagyl at 10:00 pm tonight. They told me the timing is important.

Katie, I look forward to getting back to my regular diet. My UC doesn’t appear to be effected by diet. I look forward to reducing my bowel movements, urgency, and pain.

Paul, you are one amazing person! By now you are in prepping for surgery, but just know that all my thoughts and good vibes are heading to you right now. Take care and when you feel up to it, let us know how you are doing.

Thanks everyone. I’m still alive and without a colon. I found out they have wireless internet access here at the hospital so I called my wife and had her bring our laptop. I won’t be typing much today because of the position I need to be in. I’ll give you more information tomorrow.

My aunt has had hers for 20 years now and is doing great. I have crohn's and have a permanent ilieostomy so ask me any questions. For the ostomy smell try putting white tic tacs in the bag after you dump the contents!
