enema and diarrhoea

I have not taken the mesalamine foam, but I had this problem with the regular mesalamine enema.  I was also v. nauseous.  I never have this problem with the steroid enema, and since they give me better results I switched to them.

BTW-am updating my signature, I do not take Rowasa anymore (for the reasons above).

In my experience (and I think many on this board would agree), the steroid enemas are much different than the oral steroids because they do not go straight into your bloodstream. When I was on oral prednisone, I had terrible sleeplessness, the moonface, you name it I had it. But with the steroid enema I only have mild side effects, even after being on them for awhile. At times I have taken them twice a day and then I see the side effects sooner, but they are still mild. As far as the risks of these for the long term, speak with your doctor, but my doctor is not concerned with me taking them as I have been (which has never been more than a month or two at a time). If you needed them for longer to help you get back on track, maybe that would be less advisable but I'm really not sure. Hope that helps!

With the foam I think it's hard to use half the bottle as it come out in one spray.

I just had D this morning, after having solid BM's last night so it is definitely the enema mixing with the stools and give me loose stools. I still can't seem to lose the centre and left sided abdominal pain - is it enema related or probiotic die off? Of something totally different?

Been to two doctors and had urine test done but they found nothing. I hope it isn't small or large bowel inflammation but then I have no urgency or regular diarrhoea.

I've had this problem too but not with the foam. My GI put me on hydrocortisone suppositories for hemmies and I would wake up in the middle of the night and have D which was unusual for me because I'm in remission right now.
