Having a primary care doc who has IBD! Just saw my new primary for the second time, we were discussing my allergic cough and possible treatment approaches and got onto antibiotics. I told him I try to avoid those, and he said he understood, the D can be really bad, because he himself has IBD. I didn't ask what kind because I figured it wasn't my business, but wow! To have a doctor who understands what it's like!

I think I'm in heaven. yeah

I know, and he's all about taking probiotics all the time, too! I got so tired of my old doctors looking at me when I told them I was taking pbx and saying "Oooooo-kay", like yeah, whatever.

Woo yeah! Good for you. I've got the same situation with my GI and it's so great. Seriously, I almost jumped out of my chair and rejoiced when he told me "I know what it's like, I've been on all the meds out there, I myself have UC so I understand your frustration. We're going to work together and find something that works for YOU." I had never been more excited before about a doctor.

This makes me wonder if some people who have an illness should be doctors. I am pondering this. Just a random thought. That is awsome that you have a doctor that knows how it is. I kinda wish i was so lucky, but that is ok my doctor is good too. ^_^

Good for you! :) My primary doesn't have an IBD but her mother had Uc before having a colectomy. So it's always nice to either A) have a doc that has it too or B) have a doc with a close relative with it. Makes things so much easier doesn't it??

While researching UC a while back, I actually stumbled onto the blog of a woman who has IBD and is in med school. It was pretty interesting stuff; wish I'd bookmarked it.

Some of the people on this forum might as well be GIs, their knowledge is so extensive!

My dentist has Crohn's so I can run a lot of concerns by him that most health practitioners rarely deal with. He invested in a small but powerful drill that operates ca. twice as fast as older models-- so that he can treat a tooth in less time, meaning that the procedure is less strenuous for him & also for us patients. (A win-win situation!) / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I wonder if my Naturopathic doc has it. He's always referring to family members or friends, so maybe that's just it, but I can tell he really gets it. And is very optimistic about making me well!

Ha ha, old hat - I would just make sure he washed his hands really well before touching in my mouth. We all know where are hands spend a lot of their days lol.

Fitzy-- he not only washes his hands before treating each patient, he wears disposable gloves, too. His hygiene is likely superior to many doctors' practices. / Old Hat

We got so tired of my old doctors looking at me when I told them we was taking pbx and saying "Okay" but what could we do to this?

I probably would have jumped up and hugged him after he said he also had UC! Good for you for finding someone that knows what it's like!

I have one friend who is registered nurse and has Cron's. He also going for the doctor diploma, but I don't know in which field. HOWEVER!, for me it's difficult to talk to him about this kind of staff because he is strict to the regular meds and drugs. I keep trying all the natural things, Chinese, robotics, etc, but he refuses to do anything but regular drugs. That's what his education done to him! I wish all doctors would be more flexible to accept alternative medicine. That would be happiness...

happiness is ...

being able to eat a tasty, greasy hamburger with cheese, bacon and grilled onions WITHOUT it coming back to haunt me the next day! (can ya tell I am craving something?!?!)
