5 weeks on Antibiotics and no flare!

I had a blocked tear duct and it got infected with MRSA, so I ended up with 2 surgeries and 5 weeks on antibiotics! (Cipro for one week and Bactrim for 4 weeks) I was really worried about my UC flaring up, but I've had no problems. (I'm actually feeling better than ever on that front!) On the suggestion of my GI, I have been taking Florastor while on the antibiotics. It's expensive, but I think I'll continue on it.

Just thought I'd share since it seems like many of us get concerned when we have to take antibiotics.

Cipro is commonly used for IBD so I'm not surprised you've felt better with using it and I'm so glad you're smart enough to be taking probiotics...be sure to take them at least 2 hours after you've finished taking your antibiotics for the day, otherwise the antis will just kill off the pros...and even when you've stopped taking the antis, continue with the probiotics indefinitely, many studies have shown that probiotics are essential in helping with IBD symptoms because we tend to have bacterial overgrowth issues.
