the new philips colon health with probiotics? i started taking it yesterday hope it helps alittle bit.

Pamela, I quit smoking March 11, 2008 started flaring for the first time ever mid-may. Scared me to death! Finally got the nerve, went to the doctor end of July had my colonoscopy August 25th and it was UC. My doctor told me t hat I already had the "bad bacteria" when I was a smoker. However, when I quit smoking it woke the bad bacteria up thus the flare. I went back on the nico patch and it settled it down. Have taken myself back off the nico patch because of the economy. I thought of going back to smoking, but then that is not an option for me I worked too hard to quit and my husband is in the earliest stages of emphysema.

I hope this helps, but quitting smoking can cause flares!

Personally, I think there are better choices of probiotics. That one has lots of additives.
Look for something in a health food store, something that is kept refrigerated.
See what I use (below): my doc wants me to use something that doesn't have gluten or soy or other additives, and is made with human bacteria, not animal. It's about $1.50-2.50/day but good stuff.

I've been checking these new, highly advertised "probiotic" products. The Phillips has 1.5 billion bacteria. Activia gives no indication how much it contains. Most of the probiotis we take give us at least 5 billion; I use a total of 10 billion a day. So no, probably won't do much good.

I take Align - one of those advertised probiotics because I was given a month's supply from my doctor.  Why not try it?  I like it so much I got more.  Has only maybe 1 million bacteria but works for me.
