hospital appointment today.

i had the hospital today and it went well i suppose.He's booking me in next week to get a look at my insides. He said he wont change treatment until he takes a looksee. He reckons that my symptoms sound like theres a logt happenning and that he feels he won't have to go that far up my colon as he seems to feel its all lower down.

   He done a blood test today to see if i'm suitable for imuran or aziophr.....(can't mind name of it).Said it takes three weeks for those results to come through, whats this test for anyone know?? He said if things are bad in there he will start me on a high dosage of pred for a month before he puts me on imuran.He also believes the asacol are the culprit for the nausea.

         he was a great doctor,not looking forward to next week as im so tender but i have to do it.

sorry Marty! but hopefully this will get you on the track to remission!

They need to check to see how you metabolize imuran (aka azathioprine) or 6-mp and then if you go on either of those you will have blood tests every three months to check your liver and blood count.

I hate pred, but I hate flaring worse than pred...........

Marty, how awful for you to be going through a change in symptoms....hope the meds get you feeling better and that the imuran allows you to have many less symptoms in the long run.

I guess surgery isn't something you'd consider?

Just throwing it out because I know how bad your UC can have you feeling.

I am in a similar situation Marty. I am having my colonoscopy done at 9 am today(i seriously...do...not....like...prep!!!!) to see what the heck is going on. I can't seem to go any lower than 20 mg of pred or else my symptoms get much worse..and thats even being on 6mp. And I ain't feeling so swift on 20 mg of pred either, but its more tolerable at this level. He tossed out the idea of remicade at my last visit because he said we are trying to save my colon as of this point. He wants to avoid surgery unless its absolutely necessary. I am not sure what to be more scared of as of...remicade or surgery!!! I've done extensive research on both and both can be risky. I guess I'll know more either today or monday as to whats next!

The good thing about this board is we can all commiserate together :). Hang in there and you will get through it.. you've made it this far.

Marty, I am so sorry that you are not feeling well. That is one of the many reasons why I am so thankful for this site in the we all understand how it feels when we are flaring and not feeling well. I will put you in my prayers and hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone for the replies.I actually had a better day today, my morning was good which is rare these days.Usually mornings have been really bad.We went to a family halloween party tonight, great fun.
My friend was started on Imuran 3 months ago, she has really bad Crohns and she hasn't looked back.She is doing well on it so i'm hoping that it works for me.I'm hoping that i won't need surgery this time Quincy although i know i'm getting to that stage where it may be safer to take the colon out.I've had this disease 16 years now but i'm always hopeful that the next remission will be a lengthy one.
Vin i hope your colonoscopy goes well, you are in a similar position. i hope that you find the right treatment to get you back to yourself.
