Curiousity here - does anyone drink gatorade on a regular basis to help w/ their UC? I have a friend that suggest I do this for 3-4 days and stop drinking water to see if that makes me feel better. She is an RN and told me that she feels confident I will. Thought it was worth a try sure can't hurt. So do you drink Gatorade?

Try pedialyte instead. I find that when I am dehydrated I feel crappy and the electrolytes and potassium in pedialyte or gatorade do make me feel better.

I'd go with Pedialyte and skip the gatorade all together, too much sugar and junk in it.

When I was a baby, I had colic and couldn't keep anything down. I also refused to drink pedialyte, but loved Gatorade. So my pediatrist told my parents to keep me on that, so I was literally raised on the stuff. It's been my beverage of choice since I was a kid- I never really drank soda or anything, it was always Gatorade or water. I still almost always have a bottle of it in my fridge, but I don't really find it has any effect on my UC, positive or negative. Though I do seem to have more issues when I drink the red colored ones.

Gatorade is really high in carbs. There are better choices, like pedialyte

Gatorade will not have a direct impact on UC, however it can aid in relieving dehydration from the big "D" better than plain water due to the electrolyes K, and Na. I don't really like gatorade that much anymore due to the food dyes and they changed their recipe from the original glucose-based mix.
Distilled H2O with a drop of lemon juice, honey, and/or some salt-substitute works for me.
Too much pedialyte makes me feel ill, and unfortunately I've recently seen that nasty sucralose in it so I abandoned it all together. Its getting tougher to find products that don't contain sucralose anymore...

I'd never drink it. But, I'm curious..how would it help your UC according to the nurse?
Most gatorades or flavoured waters, etc are chock full of artificial sweeteners.
You'd be best to eat your calories than drink them.

Gatorade never bothered me either unless I have alot of them. One here or there is fine. My personal favorite is XXX Vitamin water. It seems to make me feel better for some reason.

Gatorade is suppose to help with dehydration, giving back electrolytes, potassium and such to aid with dehydration, pedialyte does the same only it's better because it doesn't contain near as much junky stuff.

When I was flaring, Gatorade was all I would drink and I didn't have any problems with it at all. I still drink it from time to time.

Gatorade is balanced to replace electrolytes lost through physical exercise. Pedialyte is balanced to replace electrolytes lost through vomiting and/or diarrhea. There are small but important differences, and it's now recommended children and babies not be given Gatorade for N/V/D because it can cause electrolyte imbalances. Therefore, if you're going to drink one, Pedialyte is probably the better choice.
That said, I don't know how drinking expensive, electrolyte-laced water is going to help unless you're having severe, watery D. I think maybe your nurse friend needs to stick to what she knows about
, which doesn't seem to be IBD. Her comment sounds like she probably works in general pediatrics or medical nursing, not GI.

I drink Gatorade all the time. One because I love it and two because Gatorade is good for electrolytes. Since I take Azathioprine I figure it can't hurt to have a little extra help in that department.

My GI doc told me flat out. Stay away from gatorade because it can cause you to have loose stools if you drink large amounts of it.

So I read this thread and sent my husband to buy Pedialyte. It was sooo gross. I can't drink it. It taste like mineral water or the stuff they make you drink for a prep.

Hanna24 may I suggest adding some squeeze lemon in it or lime? Perhaps that might help the flavor.

I'll try it - I've got plenty of it now to experiment with :)
