How much do your meds cost?

Hi.  How much does everyone spend each month on meds?  I must spend $200 and I have insurance.

Mine are down to $90. At one time it was $185, but some of my meds went generic and a few were discontinued.

I must have GREAT insurance. My I have 2 meds that cost $25, and the rest cost $10, I only take some of them so I don't spend over $50 a month. But I am strict with my UC meds though.

My insurance is great too - $10 brand name and $5 generic. So with all my medications, I spend around $50 a month.

Mine are also $10 generic and $25 brand. Unfortunately, my Vitoran and Synthroid are both unavailable in generic. The Synthroid never will be because there's no profit in selling it, so no generic manufacturer will take it on.

Most of mine are $16 and a couple of them are for 3 months at a time so its probably no more than $60 a month. My effexor has a generic brand that actually cost more than the name brand stuff! Go figure. I'm really lucky that my parents have really good insurance. I will be screwed though if I can't find a job right out of college!

My job-related insurance will pay generics 100%. However, when I recently inquired at local (chain) pharmacy what the co-payment would be if I went back on original Colazal, the pharmacist told me $283 for a month's supply. The total cost she quoted, $660 for a month's supply of original, is down from what it was before the generic came on the market, $780-$790-- but these prices are still too high. I'm kind of disgusted about it! Some kind of uniform price system is needed for meds in the U.S. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I have a good deal through my insurance we I get 90 days of Asacol for 1 copy

I pay 375 dollars for a 3 months supply of asacol through mail order. My job insurance pays only a percentage of non generic.

Being self employed, I pay ~$700 for my family of 4 for my Health Savings Account insurance plan. Our total deductible is $2400 - (200/month). I can put that away monthly tax free and keep the remainder if not used. Unfortunately since Asacol is not generic I have to pay full boat until my deductible is met. $1.40 per pill at 6 pills a day. Once my deductible is reached I get 3 months supply for $50. Once Asacol goes generic then I'll be able to get it for $10 for 3 months supply as will anyone else at Wal-Mart. If I mail order them it seems "generic" is available in Canada but I am leery, plus it won't count against my deductible. Expect Rx prices to go up if Medicare gets to negotiate their own prices. The health insurance/prescription drug puzzle is not an easy one to solve.

in australia all meds no matter how much they are, are never more than $30 out of pocket.
my mesalazine alone says $340 a pop, thank god i dont have to pay that.

I have ok insurance- I do the mail-order med thing, & pay $60 for a 3 month supply of Asacol, $30 for a 3 month supply of Imuran, & zero per Remicade infusion. The no pay for the infusions is due to how the hospital bills them- they bill 'em as chemo, which is covered in full. My insurer considers them outpatient surgery, which is $250 a pop. So far they haven't caught up with the discrepancy in what they are being billed for & what they are paying. If I buy meds monthly, it's $60 per month for Asacol & $30 per month of Imuran. Which I don't do- the mail order deal is much better.

I have pretty good insurance, and I order the meds I take regularly through mail order...comes out to about $45/month in prescriptions. Then my probiotics, which are not covered are costing me about $100/month. Then various supplements, about $30/month. Grand total = $175/month, but it fluctuates as I add or drop supplements, or reduce my probiotic intake. Close to more than I can afford, but definitely above what I want to afford!

Wow! Look at the difference in what Jano pays for 3 months supply of Asacol compared to what Eva Lou pays. UCers seem to get ripped off depending on where we reside, as well as due to the type of insurance we have. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

My drug plan covers 80% of my prescriptions. So I pay about $35 per month on Asacol and about $13 per month on budesonide enemas, for a total of about $48 per month for UC meds.
