I recently have been reading a lot of studies about
the use of nicotine patches to control UC. A study done by the Mayo Clinic and they have found pretty good results with there use. Have any of you heard of this or have tried this?

It's been discussed here numerous times...like anything, it helps some and makes no difference for others...it's a very individualistic disease for sure.

I have seen improvement with the use of nicotine patches. I am not currently using them since I am on Pred. I'll save the patches for when I am off of Pred. I started to see my first signs and symptoms of UC after I quit smoking several years ago. It is interesting that these are connected, too bad smoking is so bad for you!

thanks. i had just seen some research and thought it might be worth a try. i am on pentasa right now and seeing no improvement. I don't take steroids because I have tried then twice before and have gotten horribly ill from them and had to stop taking them. So i am really looking for some new ideas.

my doc prescribed nicotine patches and said his patients have had great results. the gum supposedly works too.
i just went back to having about
1-4 cigarettes a day and i think its helping me.
i get better every day. (knock on wood)
