Lialda Reactions? Any ideas.

A week before Thanksgiving I was prescribed Lialda 4x 1.2g tablets a day.  The following day I took the second dose and started noticing sharpe pains and gas building up.  I did'nt think much of it relating to the medication but stoped it anyways after the second dose, and thought maybe I got the flue. 

The following three days I was in bed, fever, chills, confusion, no apitite, neasua, diherriah, adombinal pain, headache.  I know I was getting dehydrated as my lips became chap and water was no longer appealing to me.

I went from being partially in remission to full blown 20+ x a day blood/ bowl movements, and I had no blood in the past week before.

Took me a good two weeks to recover.  Now again, I just assumned i was laid out with the flue.  Then I took Lialda in half the dose just in case yesterday.   And again, I am down and out with the same thing.  Blood now when there was none, 20 momvents + a day.

I thought this medication is to help, not make worse.

allergic, It seems I am.  But what do  I do.  Wait it out a couple more weeks again.   Pain : /

Sumnorm, I would call your doctor ASAP. You don't want to keep taking something that is causing these problems. In my experience Lialda did not get me out of a bad flare, pred did - for me the Lialda is just as a maintenance drug so since you are already on pred the doctor may just want you to stop the Lialda...not sure...but I would say call the doctor and ask.
