My Gi just made me do a stool sample to check for C. diff.  I don't have diahhrea, just blood and mucous.  I told him that and that I thought this was just a start of a flare, but he insisted that I have to do the test.  OK.  Here is my question:  What are the symptoms of C. Diff infection?  And for the stool sample do you have to get it to the lab within an hour of getting it?  I thought C. diff was major diahhrea.  I just feel like he is prolonging my agony for a couple more days.  Sooo frusterating, even though I know he is just covering all his bases.

When I get c.diff, my symptoms are pretty much the same as UC. The only difference is I have way more blood and mucous than normal. I am often in the bathroom 15-20 times a day just to pass blood and mucous. I don't think you have to have the sample in an hour, I think it's 3 or 4 hours. I'd ask your lab. I was always told that it should stay at room temp., not refrigerated.

takes two days for test results, just getting over a bad bout of this, going 15-20x day, up every hour at night, serious cramps, lost 21 lbs in three weeks, , flagyl, viconcin, 40mg predisone, feeling great now, starting monday I'll be reducing the pred and off in a few weeks, Lialada my daily med. Best of luck

Well, c. diff was negative.  So, in addition to the 12 colazal and 1 rowasa enema a night, I will be doing cortifoam in the morning.  Hope that works.  Thanks for asking.
