UC and camping

Hi,

I have applied back to school in the fall.  I am excited and hope to get into the program that I applied too.  The program that I applied too, has a couple of field courses.  5 week long exctutions.  During these week long courses, spending 2-3 days in a tent.  The remaining time will be spent indoors.

Now, I don't mind tenting, however I have not gone camped since I have been dignosed with UC back in March 07.  I always go to the washroom at least 2 twice in the morning, usually twice in the fist half hour that I am up.

I have to admit that even though September is far off, I am worried about the field courses.  I am not comfortable staying in a tent and without having access to a clean washroom.  I hate porta potties.  I don't know if the camping area will be in walking distance from the indoor facitliaties.

If anyone camps with UC, how do you cope when camping?  I am talking about not flaring and feeling good.

I'm sorry about that field course- I mean, it sounds really cool, but I haven't been able to go camping since my diagnosis either! I wish I could, but seeing as I run to the bathroom 4-6 times every morning with extreme urgency, I just can't see how that would work in a tent. Even having to walk 5 minutes to the facilities would be too long- in the AM I just can't do it. I guess if you could bring your own camp toilet, that may work. Although if you are sharing a tent with someone, there would definitely be some explaining to do. I miss being able to camp, I slept outside the better part of my 20's! Why don't you talk with the professor, explain the situation, & tell them you will bring your own camp toilet? In case an emergency arises. Is there anyway you could get one of those portable camping potty's? I have one in the back of my van...so if you have your own personal tent then that's what I would do.

I went on a 1-month road/camping trip this past summer...I hate outhouses too. I guess I just kind of got used to them.

There were a few times when I couldn't make it there and had to go out in the forest. But hey, when you're in the mountains, who cares?
