so I haven't posted in awhile because I was finally feeling better and had to focus on my final year of college...but now I'm having symptoms again. 

I had a little bit of blood the other day, and in the past two days, I have been having dull and sharp rectal pains...just very uncomfortable.  Any thoughts?

I would guess it may be the onset of proctitis and personally if it were me I'd get on rectal meds asap.

yep..flaring, and get on the rectal meds.

It's best to use them till you're having NO symptoms, then taper to a maintenance.

you could ask the doc to prescribe you some dicyclomine...I started out with 10mg 1 - 3 times a day depending on my symptoms if flaring or not.

     I usually don't get rectal pain while flaring.  I do get pressure...could that be what you mean?  Terribly uncomfortable feeling.

It can be different for each person and even from flare to flare...preasure and/or pain is likely the onset of disease activity.

thanks for the replies... I am in the process of finding a GI but it may not be worth it since I will be out of insurance come early May when I graduate college.

Hopefully this subsides. I'm just curious if anyone else has or has had this rectal pain/pressure. Sometimes it's dull and other times it's very sharp and knife-like.

Hamley, Since my son lives with us, I know his problems as well as he does, and swear, I suffer along with him. Last September 2007, he had a severe flare,,most of it in lower rectal area. So bad he couldn't even sit or walk!! And he felt a lot of pressure, sorta like he had to go to the bathroom. He wouldn't eat and lost a lot of weight. He got so weak and dehydrated I finally called the ambulance and they took him to the hospital. They did a cat scan and said he had a severe flare in his lower descending colon and rectum. His doctor gave him prednisone, and it cleared up pretty quick. Now, should he feel this feeling just starting, like you do now, he goes straight to the doctor and gets on prednisone BEFORE if gets to that horrible flare like last year. Thankfully, he hasn't had a bad flare since,, not even one in March, where sometime he starts to feel one coming on.
So, it seems for him anyway, if you even suspect you feel your symtoms coming, nip it in the bud, and get on the Rectal meds right away.

Yes, I've had that pain too. I would get on rectal meds. If your insurance runs out in May, can you try to get in to see a doctor before then so at least you can stock up on some meds?

Hmm... I'm still having the pain, so I think I may talk to my PCP about it?  I don't have much time to play around with finding a new GI because I start student teaching in 3 weeks...and then my insurance will go out in May.  It is just so uncomfortable!

I do have a little bit of blood and mucus...but not much

Also, I think my symptoms may be related to my hormones..  They all seemed to start before/during my period.  Not a fun combination!

     Could you also be under stress?  Anticipation of starting your student teaching?  That could contribute too.

does this mean you're NOT willing to try the rectal meds again?

Yes, hormone fluctuations and stress of upcoming events (I would put student teaching up there) could exacerbate your flare...but please deal with it or your experience won't be what it needs to be.

O, i think stress is a definite factor... my first semester was rough. I'm willing to try any kind of meds, but I'm just afraid of finding something that works and then not being able to afford it in a few months. Right now, however, i need relief!!

If you have Rowasa, please start them.

You could add probiotics and fibre supplements, but really, you need to treat the inflammation before you get worse.
