Ladies-Birth Control Pills and UC

It's been a while since anyone posted on this thread. Just wanted to add my experience.

I was diagnosed with UC 2 years - although I am sure I had it much longer. I had been taking the BC over 10 years. Last year I got off the pill and my UC symptoms stopped. Where as, in the past I had flare ups about 3 -6 times a year. I even completely stopped taking my meds over the past year! I was beginning to believe I was "cured".

Last week I got the Nuvaring since I am in a new relationship and the condom method isn't alway "exciting" if you know what I mean. Well since one week I have a flare up. At least with me, I am sure that hormones have something to do with my UC. I am going to wait another few days - to see if things gets better, if not I will remove the Nuvaring.

Before taking the Nuvaring I asked my gynecologist about the hormones in it - and he said it actually had MORE hormones than the BC. A lot of hormones in the BC dissolve in the stomach and intestines lining. I wish someone would have told me about a possible connection with BC and UC.

Am thinking of trying the IUD now *sigh* Anyone have experience with that?

Interesting. I can't take the pill. My mom and sister both got blood clots from it. A blood clot in the lungs landed my sister in the hospital. I can't use any of the other non-hormone methods either. I get infections too easily. So basically, I just use timing, the withdrawal method, and condoms, depending on the time of my cycle. So far, I've gotten pregnant only twice, and both were planned pregnancies.
