Cats and UC

Cat lover here! I have 1 cat currently- would love to get another, but my husband claims he's allergic.... I think it's all in his head, but I'll take it into consideration. I love cats- they are so much easier than dogs & they don't smell. We do have a dog also, a nice one, a Sheltie- aka miniature collie. But she's one of those dogs who love to roll around in nasty stuff & come home smelling just awful. My cat is an outdoor one- in the warm weather she's out for days, bringing home all sorts of dead creatures as treats.... super predator, she is! But she sleeps with us in our bed, is very affectionate, & is quite a comfort when I'm feeling badly.

unclebubba: I'm not sure which Tim Bedore has done, but Heywood Banks has a song I'm sure you'll like named "the cat got dead". Funny, but horrible as I'm a cat lover. I prefer cats to dogs since they don't *need* your love, but when you're sick and lying in bed they so comforting. When my guts hurt the most, I find it comforting to have my cat purring and lying next to me. She helps me forget the pain.

ediekristen: Cat boxes are indeed nasty, but the benefits far outweigh the nasty parts. I've been in people's homes that reek of cat urine. Usually they're elderly and either can't smell it or they're to exhausted to do anything about it. Sometimes it's just that they don't know what to do to prevent it or how to clean it up properly. I'm a large dog lover myself. I can't stand tiny dogs. I prefer the larger dog that barks at the person at the door and they think twice about entering versus the little dog that yaps and isn't scary enough. If a robber thinks they can enter unchallenged then they will. They will think twice when the bellow of a large dog makes them wet themselves. :D My Lab/Pitt Bull is very intimidating. He'll just lick your face off, but people new to the house don't know that. I remember seeing a sign once of a German Sheppard and it read, "The dog can make it to the fence in 3.2 seconds. How fast can you?". LOL!

My cats don't give attitude. I wouldn't keep them if they did. They're all well mannered and loving. They know where the litter box is and how to use it. They're all adopted. The dog is stray too. The best stray I've ever had. They eat the best dry food money can buy. The dog is so intelligent that if we ask for a specific toy, he'll go fetch that toy. We can place all 4 side by side and he'll get the one we asked him to fetch. He knows each relative by name and he knows the cars that come up the driveway(4 family private land and we're the 1st house). He'll growl if a strange car comes in. He watches deer and chases raccoons and opossums. He loves all cats and plays with them all.

Can you tell I love my pets and wouldn't give them up for the world? They are comforting when I'm in pain and always there when I cry sometimes and need a listening ear.

My daughter has two cats, and sometimes I stay over with her. I notice no difference in my Colitis symptoms when I'm with the cats.
