Glutamine / Gluthatione ??

Glutathione is an antioxidant. It hangs out in the liver mostly.
L-glutamine is a nonessential amino acid that is mainly concentrated in the skeletal muscle. It is very useful for illness and injuries.

The most benefit from this cocktail was probably the glutamine and fatty acids. I would not advocate taking glutathione for long periods of time as the body will eventually shut down its own production.

L-glutamine helps promote gut healing and can help slow down or stop diarrhea. It's also good for building muscle mass. Omega3 - fish, flax oil - reduces inflammation.

I am happy you are med-free, ucwarrior, but alot of this is just luck. Many of us have tried the med-free route and get much, much worse. In my case, I was/am allergic to basically all UC meds other than prednisone and, recently, Remicade. I have also dampened UC to the max with dietary adjustments, stress control, exercise, and supplements (most notably probiotics)... but when push comes to shove, I am convinced that those who are able to mysteriously become symptom-free without meds are mostly just lucky their conditions are that mild. I had a spontaneous remission that was med-free and it lasted almost 10 years. It took pred to get into it though otherwise I would have lost the colon way back then. You win some, you lose some with this stupid disease.

I will add though, that I am a believer in helminth (worms and/or worm eggs) therapy as a possible means for some to go med-free... but its efficacy is still not that high and in my case it turns out to dampen the UC without getting me off meds altogether.  I think perhaps one day these therapies may get refined enough to really offer med-free life.  Certainly worms have co-evolved with us for millions of years as opposed to say 10 years for stuff like the biologics.

I will not claim to be an expert as I have not really experimented until now, even though I've had it since 1999. Medicin have done it okay for me.
However to get rid of the worry of flare I have decided to do some actions to see if it helps, thus why I am here.
My current physical state is not my problem, my fear of it getting worse is what put limits to my life (trying to avoid stress etc. which is very stressful in itself etc. etc.)

@Probiotic: I understand your point of view. We are on the global internet here and the world is full of rumours, hear-say, fanatics, wise people, stupid people, bad people, good people etc etc etc. My point being - it is very very wise to be critical to what you read.
But to say that people who have succes by doing something is pure luck, is probably to be to sceptical.
It seems the causes, development and severeness of this disease is so different that in terms of cure, remission, diet etc. it is maybe numearous variants of the disease?
Also, I assume this is an American forum (as a minimum)? I read that 2 mio. Americans suffer from CU. If that's the case, then it is only a fraction that is in here. Maybe just maybe the more difficult cases as well as the people like UCWarrior that really take active battle against this.
There might just be a big group without severe problems, or that have done something that works form them, that we never heard of.
There might be thousands that read in here try some suggestion that works, but you only hear from those it didn't work on. We don't know.
Evidence would be so nice, but it's not there. Still I have read of so many that have tried something and it worked for them - might not for others though.

Some are allergic to cats. If they stay away from them they are remission. Others are multi-allergic, staying away from cats help them, but they still suffer from other stuff. .......... I don't know

Just to add another:
I had this for 10 years. Never severe but regular falre ups.
Some years ago I went to a Zonetherapeut (if that's what it is called in English? .... you knw, a person pushing under your feet).
Immediately after I had a (for me) severe flare as if it was provoked. But as soon as that was gone, I was in remission for 2½ years without any medication - the only time in the 10 years without medication !! Luck, coincidence, cure ??? Don't know !!

Probiotic--How much do those pig whipwork eggs cost? Is it the same thing as TSO? Don't you have to order them from Europe? A GI I saw at the Cleveland Clinic said that he would personally try TSO over Remicade.

Where can you get l-glutamine? Would I find it at a Whole Foods market?

Unfortunately, this disease is so individualized that whatever meds or natural remedies work for some may not work at all for others. UC would be so much easier if it was the same for everyone! Also, I wish researchers would spend more time on stem cells rather than more biologics; stem cells could be a cure but biologics are only treatment.
