Stoping Bleeding during a flare, without medication..

Tips and Advice???

I've done it before,...but I'm going on my 6th week of a flare...and would Love to hear some experience or feedback??

Bee Propolis....been taking it daily for the last 5 yrs and haven't bled since and my GI is thrilled with that and the other IBD symptoms it's helped with.

And I don't take any RX for my IBD, just all naturals, altered diet, regular exercise.

I've done it too. I've had three flares so far. I didn't take any "hard core" medications for two of them. The most potent medicine I take is Lexapro. It really isn't that potent.

1. Get plenty of rest.
2. Reduce your stress.
3. Keep exercising.
4. Take vitamins.
5. Take Probiotics (mix with water and put up the butt).
6. Take Beano and Lactaid.
7. Eat anti-inflammatory foods.
8. Avoid inflammatory foods.
9. Avoid any foods that bother you.
10. Try fecal transplantation if you really don't mind the grossness.
11. I haven't tried this, but some people say vitamin E enemas help.

I've heard of fecal transplantation before? Where would you actually go about getting that done?  Just out of curiousity if it came to that....

Very interesting. Where do you get it, and do you put it up the butt?

I buy it online at puritans pride and they're caps taken orally.

High dose omega3 for reducing inflammation, Mucosaheal, l-glutamine and George's aloe vera for gut healing. Predigested liquid diet for resting the gut. Depending on where your active bleeding is, you might look into healing implant enemas.

Since I'm a med-lifer, I would firstly suggest at least the 5ASA meds..oral and rectal, to deal with the inflammation initially.

There is something scary to me where people have a slow simmering inflammation continually believing they're not that bad off.

My doc's initial goal was to get me off meds....the realisation that it wouldn't happen came about 3 years afterward....but staying on a minimal amount of meds long-term is the best alternative if inflammation is continual.

Definitely take supplements that one believes will help, but sometimes not all supplements agree with everyone. It's also easy to become confused to the point where we are so consumed with so much input, be it information or food or supplements or meds...that the scrutiny of each and every symptom becomes a major issue.

Adjusting one's diet where food symptom/discomfort is minimal will help. Differentiating between UC and food symptoms is helpful...but it does take time.

If any symptoms are continual and food adjustments have been made, UC symptoms should be addressed with meds...and of course I suggest oral and rectal meds...5ASA initially and then the steroid topicals.

Bee propolis is basically bee caulk. Its valued as a remedy for inflammation and ulcers as well as a few other issues. Goes all the way back to ancient Egypt.

Don't worry no stings are required for a propolis supp. You are thinking of bee venom therapy. Its mostly used for multiple sclerosis cases.

Bee careful when using bee products if you are bee sensitive.

Fecal transplantation might help those who have taken too many antibiotics. It put me immediately into remission when I was in my second flare. My poo was fantastic, that is until I had to take antibiotics again for a urinary tract infection.

Hi Joy-- I'd be very interested in your experience "home brewing" this treatment. I have prestocked myself with enema bottles (fleet enemas that I will empty out clean out first, and use once each night then dispose) and reckon it is straightforward enough (fill her up and let it rip), but would appreciate your tips. Here are the details:

I did the fecal transplantation during my second flare when I was having trouble tapering off Prednisone. Every time I reduced my dosage from 25mg to 20mg, I would bleed. I was desperate.

I didn't use that much poo. Young babies go very little.

As soon as my granddaughter had a bowl movement, I took the diaper (before any of the bacteria had a chance to die), scooped out the gooey poo and mixed it with a bit of warm water. I didn't get more than one or two syringe's worth. I put the mixture in a syringe that had a long, removable tip. I then put it up my butt.

The effect was immediate. It slowed down my having to go to the bathroom. I was still bleeding though.

I did the same thing the next time my granddaughter had a bowl movement (the next day).

Again, it slowed down my having to go to the bathroom. This time the bleeding also became less.

I did the same thing the next time my granddaughter had a bowl movement (the following day).

Again, it slowed down my having to go to the bathroom. This time the bleeding stopped.

I then got off of Prednisone as fast as I could. I got off of it a little too quickly. My joints made cracking noises, and the joints in my hands hurt. The bleeding did not return.

I read that fecal transplantation should be done about five times. My daughter was visiting; so I was able to do it only three times. Luckily, three was enough.

Please note. Some people have tried it with no success. I think there is a greater chance of success if you have a history of having taken antibiotics. It's really a boost that works much faster than Probiotics. If you find that Probiotics help, then fecal transplantation may help even more. However, there is no guarantee.

I read about it on the Internet. They are having great success rates with the procedure in Australia. I couldn't afford the treatment; so I did it myself.
