Has anyone done a probiotic enema? How do you do it?

I was wondering if anyone does or has done a probiotic enema if so, did it help and how did you do it?

5 caps into 30 ml water in one of my empty hydrocort enema bottles. Made sure i wouldn't expel first by using 120 ml warm water in initially then just voiding.

I'm willing to try this, but we have suggestions of 1 or 5 capsules, probably different strengths, too.
I guess I want to know, can you "overdose" with too much?

I doubt it. I use one capsule, because Probiotics costs money and one capsule works for me.

For those of you who do the probiotic enema, How long do you hold the enema in? Do you lay on your side for a while or do you put it in and go about your day or.....do you just put it in at night?

I think I was doing it twice a day when my flare was at its worst--once in the morning after going to the bathroom and once at night before going to bed. It's really a small amount. There was no need to lie on my side.

It is a small amount. I could even put less water in the enema bottle. How long did it take for you to see a difference with this regimen during your flare? Even the smallest change such as less blood or bathroom trips etc.....Also, I notice that after I do the enema (I use an old hydrocort enema bottle w/ filtered water) I feel kind of raw down there. Did you experience this at all. Has anyone experienced this at all? At this point I am at the point where I am trying everything I can to get into remission so that I don't have to go onto Remicade. I don't want to give in with out trying all that I can. I just started flaring really bad again after I started the Augmentin (antibiotics) My last dose ends tomorrow Thank God!!!!I am hoping to see some change(even the smallest change) after this.

I use a syringe that has a long removable tip. I bought it at a drug store. The syringe doesn't bother me.

It took me one and half to two months to get into remission. I went from lots of blood, huge blood clots, and diarrhea to no blood at all. It was a gradually process. Some days I did worse than others.

I was also eating/drinking lots of anti-inflammatory foods/beverages and avoiding pro-inflammatory foods. That also helped.

I have Colitis for a couple of reasons. One is that I was on antibiotics for many years. The antibiotics killed my good bacteria. That's why Probiotics work well for me. I had also done fecal transplantation two years prior. That worked instantly.

Fecal transplants are supposed to be more permanent. I wonder if anyone experimented with adding a couple of packets of VSL3 to the FT to make it more effective.

I went for human probiotic infusion at Dr Borody's clinic after a lot of to-and-fro ing. I was not comfortable with the idea. I had been on vancomycin and flagyl prior to that for a year and half. The first infusion was administered by colonscope. My doctor said I had an ulcer in the terminal ileum. After that I had 4 infusions. It was ok in the beginning and then started improving day by day. I had hypertension the prior year - after the infusion 20points were taken off my bp. For 6 weeks I was flying high. But I forgot the rule of moderation and had too much cake chocolates garlic bread etc (I didn't have that for a long time). Slowly the improvement deteriorated, so I thought let's go for a top-up. Immediately after the 2-day top-up infusion, my bp skyrocketed and things got worse. I am told it was the same donor.

I think the key to successful infusion is to get the 1st one by colonoscope - they go right to the terminal ileum and liberally spread the bacteria. I learnt my lesson on moderation. I am going to take vancomycin again and ask to be given infusion by colonscope the first time. By the way I also had blastocystis hominis few years ago but 7 day Batrim course got rid of it.

We tried this with one of our FT.  I had a difficult time mixing the VSL#3 but I think it was b/c I was just rushing it so that we didn't let the donor sample sit around too long.

Been in hospital almost 2 months on steroids. Scared of surgery or remicade or ciclosporin.

Gona do a propbiotic enema and/or home made fecal enema from my toddler nephew's healthy stool.

Recipe:
50 ml poo or 50 ml VSL#3 (whisked)
200 ml warm luke water.
Insert in enema, in bum.
Hold at least 15 minutes to disseminate the good bacteria to colonize where they were booted out of thei nice comfortable abodes

I was told to use a packet of VSL#3 in 2 cups warm water (body temp) before bed. Retain it..you can do a reverse colon massage to get the mixture through the entire colon...lay on your back with your knees bent and work up from the rectum to the ascending colon.

I reused my enema bottles from my meds - washed in warm water with dish soap. It takes about 7 x 60ml bottle to equal 1 cup. I also rinse first with just plain water.

I tried a rectal syringe but they are not very user friendly. There's no rubber stopper to and the opening is too small to pour into. You can try an enema bag..but need to hang it some where...maybe tie it to the bedpost or get a IV rack?

Wish you could just by the same enema bottle they use to make the enemas..but they won' sell to the public!

Anyone else give this a shot?
