I have been taking Claritin (or Loratadine) 10 mg and swear it has been helping me tremendously. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not. Anyone else take alllergy meds and think it helps with your UC symptoms?

I've been on allergy meds consistantly now for over 4 years and no, it hasn't made much a difference with my symptoms. But it makes sense, many of us have allergy induce flares. Settle the allergy, settle the Uc. Allergies are nothing more than a histamine reaction brought on by the immune system due to foreign objects such as pollen, dander, mold, mildew etc.

It is possible. My son had missed a few days in a row of his Zyrtec-D and had a mini-flare that lasted just under a week. I wondered about
it at the time, and now with what you said...

Allergies can trigger flares. When I first found out that I had Colitis, I immediately got tested for allergies. I had just taken up hiking, and both times I had a flareup, I got them in the fall (August). I thought perhaps my flareups were due to an allergic reaction to the foliage in the hills. It turned out that I wasn't allergic to anything. It wasn't a waste of time getting tested though. It ruled out one reason for getting Colitis.

Antihistamines can cause C, so if you have D it may help to dry things up a bit

Many use antihistamines as part of their IBD regime because for them it does actually help their IBD symptoms so mine as well stick with it daily or how ever many times a week you take it, especially if it's helping your IBD symptoms.

Take it from one who knows, antihistamines may help your UC a bit but they can also lead to iron deficiency, depression, and reduced immunity to colds and flu!

What allergy pills are safe to take when you have iron deficiency and UC?
