Yes, Lomotil is by prescription. I have used it all along. I have never used Immodium. I am tapering down on my Prednisone now too and added the 6MP on Wednesday. I'm not having blood or diahrrea, but in the mornings the urgency to go, but really go just a little to keep being annoying, because at times really don't feel like I could make it to the restroom, that is the part they are hoping can get under control with 6MP because that has always been a problem. I have had severe bleeding at times, but not so much lately. That is good. I also have GERD and take Prilosec, sometimes Prevacid seems to do the job

molly - I never heard of Lomotil until I came here. I have no idea about it - think it is prescription, right. I have used Imodium for years for diarrhea connected with IBS - long before UC. My doctor now says as long as I use common sense and using UC medication it is ok. He also told me I could take pepto bismal occasionally for nausea. Some do not recommend either. I no longer have diarrhea but use Imodium when traveling or spending a day away from many toilets. It gives one peace of mind I guess if nothing else. It definitely stops diarrhea for me when I overeat or something affecting my IBS - nothing to do with UC - so much fun having both - and GERD!!
Right now trying soooo hard to get into remission. Tapering prednisone - 4th week on 20 mg. and then two weeks on 15 mg. etc. Doctor added 6MP 3 weeks ago so kept me on 20 mg. for longer than usual. Unfortunately, 4 days after starting prednisone the bleeding stopped but returned second week on 20 mg. I have slight symptoms other than my BM's are streaked with mucous/blood - formed - normal otherwise and only 2 or 3 at most a day. No cramping, no pain, slight rectal discomform at times - and gas (which I take gasX for). Hoping 6 MP kicks in SOON!!
