Side effects of Asacol?

Has anybody experienced side effects from Asacol?

I posted earlier here during a flare-up (and thank you for all your answers) and I'm now in remission. Anyways, in the past couple weeks I've developed a weird sort of whooping cough (when it comes on, it feels like my throat is dusty and only lasts a few seconds; no pain) and tightness and pain in my left chest about two inches underneath my heart. I've also gotten two ulcers on my tounge and itchy rashes on my shins. The symptoms all presented at the same time, about two-three weeks ago but have gradually gotten worse. I don't have asthma and it's not exercise related (I had a staff-training today, and heavy exercise didn't agravate it as all which I'm thankful for because I need the job). I didn't put two and two together until I realized the symptoms began presenting about 5 days after I upped my dose by four Asacol (ten a day now). Sure enough, some sites have all of my symptoms listed as possible side-effects of Asacol although a sore throat seems to be more common than a cough.

Has anyone experienced this with Asacol?

When I upped my dosage of Asacol to nine per day, the side effect I had was noticable hair loss--it was literally coming out in my hands.  It went back to normal when I lowered my dosage back to six per day.  If what you are experiencing is listed as side effects of Asacol, then it certainly could be from upping the dosage.  You won't really know unless it gets better on its own, or you lower your dosage to see if it gets better.

When I was put on Asacol I was in my first flare. By the time I realized it was the meds making me worse I had 13 of the side effects. Mouth ulsers were really bad I had 8 at one time. Rash up my legs. The smallest break in skin turned into boils. Eyes red like pinkeye. It was awful!! How long have you been on it?

At first Asacol worked good for me then after about two months I started getting pain around my side and kidney area. I quit Asacol and 3 to 4 days later the pain went away, I also would at times get short of breath feeling.

I swear Pentasa (same basically as Asacol) made me impotent over time. Quitting it has reversed the problem.

I am taking 15 Asacol a day and find a great deal of relief.  I take 3 at a time.  I feel like I have a cramping sensation, and then 20 minutes after taking them, the cramping goes away.  I have told my GI about this and she says it is in my head.  I tell her, "No, it is my gut".  I haven't had any negative side effects.

I've never had any noticable side effects from Asacol however I have noticed a lot of hair loss lately and my Dr did up my dose to 9 pills a day.  I blamed the hair loss on coming off of prednisone a few months back but maybe it's the Asacol, oh well at least I can afford to lose some.
