Ok, it's been a few days since I started taking the dosage my GI prescribed for me. 3pills 3x a day. For about 6 months to save money and due to Insurance problems, I was only taking 3pills 2x a day to make them last. Well, now that I'm at 3x3 a day, I noticed I'm having more urgency issues, and kinda a yellow puss/mucus coming out, looks like when ya blow your nose.(Sorry to be graphic). I have been in what I call a kinda flare,(small) for months, and I think it's due to me not taking the correct amount. Has anyone had this problem when they increased the amount of their Colazal(generic brand made by Roxane)? I have an appt next month with my GI. I have some blood, but not as much as I was having before I started taking the right amount. Is this normal, and how much time should I give it to find out if this is working as well as the Asacol did for me?

Probably the most important factor is whether you have right-sided inflammation or not. If you do, then you need Asacol-- because it starts dissolving in the terminal ileum. (Colazal breaks down farther into the colon, probably in the transverse section.) What you just wrote about your current symptoms reminds me that Dakota Girl commented a while back about Colazal not helping her after initial diagnosis-- because she had pancolitis. Then she did better after changing to Asacol. So-- I'd advise you to move up your doctor's appointment if you don't feel better after a week on the 9 capsules/daily of generic Colazal. The generic doesn't seem to bother members posting here who take it in combo with Imuran or Remicade, but several of us who took it alone have had problems & went back to original Colazal to get relief.
