UC worse in the springtime?

So I first started having UC symptoms in March 2005, diagnosed the following month. Since then, I have ALWAYS started a severe flare in the springtime, for 5 years running. I only realized this when my Remicade nurse was reviewing my chart today and mentioned it.

Anyone else have bad flares in the spring? I would love to know if this is just a coincidence for me or what, I mean people get seasonal allergies right?

Yes, many people tend to flare mainly in the spring and fall. It's sort of a trend with Uc'ers. I got lucky *knock on wood* this year and didn't flare this spring. But I always flare either in spring or the fall.

I always seem to get worse in the winter. I'm better in the spring and summer.

Yes. All of us (four siblings) suffer the worst flare ups in spring. It has been long 20 years and by now we know that the flare ups are coming. When the flowers are blooming, we are doing sit ups.

I tend to get incredibly stressed before Christmas....and depending on how many times I've been sick (colds, etc) and on maintenance meds...I pretty much end up with a flare by Christmas.

I'm stressed during Spring and have more body issues, allergies, but UC-wise seems better...but I'm usually tapering and on a heavier maintenance dosage.

UC can be a conundrum.

     First diagnosed in Oct of 98.  I suffer flares every one to two years and ALWAYS ALWAYS either in spring or fall.  This is why I cannot ignore the fact it must be somehow allergy related.

Yes I  find spring to be the worst time for my UC. Winter is the best time for me

My first spring after diagnosis wasn't bad, but the past two, I have flared in the early spring-even my friends and family members commented on the fact that I was flaring again this year at the same time I was hospitalized last year.

I have never been tested for seasonal allergies, but I can't help but think it is all related.

I was originally diagnosed in late Feb./early March, spent a week in the hospital and a month off work at home. A year later (to the day) I was back in the ER. I credit starting a high quality probiotic with breaking the cycle and I haven't had a major flare since.

Many docs to believe there's an allergic or possibly a seasonal affective disorder link.

Hi,

With the last few years I have been having bowel problems in the Spring. Have even been hospitalised on various occasions. Was diagnosed with colitis the end of 2008. This spring has been no different and I am in a flare since February. Some good days, but alot of bad days. Hope it ends soon.

I somewhat flared in the spring of last year, but that was the first year of remission for me, so let's see what happens this year. Last year I flared in May.
