Is it possible marshmallows can squelch diarrhea? I think I may have evidence of that, and I thought I saw some posts here about
it but cannot find any.

not sure about
that - seems like they are just big mushy balls of sugar which can cause issues for some folks...

They bind things up, though, maybe it is the glycerine or gelatine? People on the ostomy forum have posted that they help, and I have accidentally stumbled into relief by eating marshmallow-filled
cookies over this weekend, I think. I hope.

I heard about
his too - anyone find out more info or experiment? They taste yummy so why not give it a shot! I think the gelatin in them might be able to provide protection for the gut lining.

ancient marshmallows contained marshmallow root which was a medicinal remedy for many conditions including digestive disorders. The stuff sold as Marshmallows now is full of corn syrup, sugar, sugar, sugar and gelatin with a little bit of corn starch....not a good idea for anyone with UC or Crohns. if you want the benefits of gelatin, buy unflavored gelatin. If you want the benefits of marshmallow, buy marshmallow root. Good luck pmitra!

Ew! Marshmallows are basically 100% sugar mixed with some other crap...personally I hate them, always have and I've been known to have a sweet-tooth.

I know a lot of ostomates use them to slow transit when they are changing their appliance. I think it's a known fact hat they slow things but i don't think they could help me when I am flaring badly. Maybe a tiny bit...

I used to eat easy mac to stop up my system!! I discovered it by accident living in the dorms. It worked great as a temporary dam, and I'm sure it is also full of thickeners like you might find in marshmallows :) But, probably not the best idea in the long run... :)
