It sounds like you've been given the generic mesalamine retention enemas rather than the brand-name, which is Rowasa. Some of us posting here have had issues with the generic; though they're supposed to be the same as Rowasa, they may have different inert ingredients. As for liquid bms after use, yes, Rowasa does that-- it doesn't fully absorb like steroid enemas do, so you'll have some liquid sloshing around in your left colon that mixes with stool. I always disliked that aspect of the med & managed to mitigate it somewhat by eating a serving of plain boiled rice daily while on it. My gastroenterologist, who sub-specializes in IBD treatment, said it's common for patients using it to experience liquid bms. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
