Flagyl-for rectal pain

My doc is recommending Flagyl for my rectal pain and what I described as the "hole" i see possible fisstual. Has anyone had good luck with Flagyl?

fistula...that now makes sense regarding your pain. Oh, how awful you're not getting a break. Hope the flagyl helps you feel better soon.

So your doc thinks it's a possible fistula? Flagyl is strictly anti-biotic, it offers no pain relief at all- if it is a fistula, the Flagyl will help keep it from becoming infected or abscessed. I also took that & Cipro when my abscess burst, to prevent infection. But I have had no pain with the fistula- it only hurt prior to forming, when it was abscessed. When it finally burst thru & formed the fistula, it was a relief.

I  really don't know, looking up fistula and reading posts people said the only thing that can help is Remicade or Flagyl to kills the bacteria. I'm confused but I hope it helps with the diarreah I've been having. They also prescribed b/c I just back from Mexico in June and my BF had to take antibiotics b/c he was sick with montasumzas revenge, so I've been dealing with diarreah thinking its UC. I don't know anymore!!!!!!It's so frustrating!

Yes, you won't heal a fistula without radical intervention (usually surgical but Remicade can knock them out) and often surgery fails depending upon where the fistula is located. If your abcess has already fistualized the flagyl won't really do anything for you, unfortunately. If you are in pain it might be an abcess and in that case the flagyl might help.

You poor thing. I've taken Flagyl, I think it helps with erridicating unfriendly bacteria. I can't imagine it helping with a fistula. I would give it a try though. Have you ever use Flagyl before? It is sometimes used to treating bacterial infections of the gut or vagina.

No this one I haven't been on. I tried Cipro about a 2 months ago for what they thought was a UTI but it wasn't. Cipro and Flagyl are not the same thing right?

I just had a skin tag removed and now I feel like theres two more coming on. They start as tiny bumps and then they grow bigger hanging out of the butt. It's terrible. I don't know how to stop the gut from spasms and quit pushing on its own. I thought Bentyl helped with that, but it doesnt. I'm bummed right now. I will know in a couple of days if the antibiotics help any.

Thanks for your well wishing, I wish there was a cure.

They are not the same I don't think - Flagyl is metronidazole. It is often prescribed for bacterial vaginosis. Maybe it will help you. I've always wanted the doctor to give me a course of flagyl to see if it helps but none seem to be openminded to it. They also use it to treat C.diff. It is a lot cheaper than vancomyacin.

I remember reading some post of good and bad about taking Flagyl, but remember one that made me say "yes" I would like to take that! I'll keep you posted.

Flagyl is commonly prescribed for GI issues. I'd rather take flagyl over Cipro but if you like to drink alcohol you cannot take flagyl.
