what causes arthristis? is it UC the diseases itself that causes arthritis or is it the meds i take?

From everything I have read the UC can be the cause of arthritis. It is listed as one of the complications.

It is thought that Uc is an auto immune disease. With any AI, there is a higher chance that your immune system will turn and attack another part of the body. There are a couple of AI arthritis forms that Uc'ers can get such as RA (rheumatoid arthritis) and AS (Ankylosing spondylitis). There is also Peripheral arthritis which is a form of arthritis that wax and wanes with an IBD'ers flare.

Perhaps you have the gene HLA-B27 ..ask your doctor it will make more sense if this is the case

I had arthritis symptoms only once and that was when I was tapering off Prednisone. It was definitely medicine related.
