Soft Stool and Lialda?

Does anyone else continue to have soft stool even when all other symptoms seem to be quieted down?  I generally have very soft (not D) stool even when I have no other symptoms.  I have been on a high dose of daily Lialda for almost two years and I wonder if that is causing it.  It says "D" can be a side effect of the medicine so I would assume softer stool could be too?  Any thoughts or others with similar experience?

Personally, I don't think that soft stool is a problem, as I had soft stool long before being diagnosed. I eat a high fiber diet and drink a TON of water, so I think that just keeps my stool soft. I honestly think it's a good thing to not have hard turds!

Fruitgirl - I totally agree because I had problems with constipation before I was diagnosesd...however, mine are pretty soft...again, not D but soft enough that they are not "normal" by any stretch...formed but sometimes fairly thin (I think due to the softness) not the way they should be in my mind...this may just be the new normal for me, I don't know. I have tried adding fiber but it has not helped at all...maybe I need to add more...sorry for the graphics of this question...

Also - un-related - I see your symptoms began after having your son, mine did too after having my daughter...wasn't that fun to deal with! The only upside was that I think my daughter kept me somewhat distracted and also made determined to get to feeling better!

Well, maybe your poop is a bit soft, but it doesn't sound like you have urgency or are going a lot of times a day, so if you hold steady with soft poop, I think it's probably ok. I mean, the meds are pretty much used to keep symptoms under control enough that we're able to live a normal life. At least that's the way I look at it.

And yeah, it was so, so, so hard having a new baby and having all of this start. I was so scared for a while--not knowing what was wrong, why I was so sick, etc. I also had post-partum anxiety on top of it all, which was made worse b/c of worrying about my health. Then after I was diagnosed, I was kind of bitter. I felt like so many precious moments had been stolen from me, yadda, yadda, yadda. But, then I realized that it would have sucked no matter when I'd been diagnosed, and that having a new baby prevented me from spending too much time wallowing in self-pity and obsessing over my diagnosis. Also, there's nothing more soothing and comforting than rocking your baby, right?

thatfield...you could consider to add fibre supplements at this time. It'll help bulk a soft stool and aid in colon "exercise"...as well...it'll help your probiotics work better.

I have the same thing on 3 lialda. In fact going down to 2 changes it for me.

Sunshineonmyface - Glad to know someone else has this too...I would like to go down to 2 but I seem to flare...for a while I was down to three but am now back at 4. Makes me feel better though knowing it is probably the meds...I can live with that if it keeps my bad symptoms under better control!
