rowasa every night

does anyone use rowasa every night?  i noticed a lot of you only use it for short periods of time or just a couple times a week.  i'm a bit freaked out because i use it nightly, and have been for a few years!!!

No need to freak :) Sometimes Rowasa can be used as a maintenance medication especially if your condition is limited to the rectum.

I use Cortifoam and doctor had me on three times a day and then two.  He said only decrease to nightly use when I felt better.  Anyway, seems there is no problem using any of the enemas/foams often if necessary.

I agree with Sherry. I used it every night for 3-ish months, then started tapering and am now doing it twice weekly. But, I have pancolitis, so am also on Apriso. If I find that I need to use Rowasa more often to stay in remission for long periods of time, I will. There's nothing to be scared of...it's perfectly safe for nightly use as a maintenance.

I use it nightly, and twice a day if I'm having a flare (at night and in the morning). I've been using it nightly for at least 2 years now as maintenance as once I seem to taper to less the flare always comes back. The way I see it, if it works then its alot safer than using prednisone for a flare and has alot fewer side effects.

kate...do you mean you've used it nightly for years or that you've been using Rowasa for years with varied schedule?

My GI would like me to use it every night, but I just can't seem to. Our compromise was Canasa suppositories, which I can and do use twice a day without fail. Maybe if I was able to tolerate the Rowesa I wouldn't be meeting with a surgeon next month. Two years of Remicade have pretty much healed my colon, but my darn rectum is sooooo stubborn. What an a**!

My GI put me on Salofalk enemas every night for at least 2 months. He said if the bleeding had stopped after the 2 months to taper, but never go less than every 3rd night.

qunicy, in answer to your question, i've used rowasa every night for years.  i can't seem to taper really.

As I told you all before - because I can't take mesalamines or tolerate many meds my new much experienced gastro doctor has me "pushing" rectal meds!  He wanted me to start Cortiform (the easist for me) three times a day followed by an Anusol suppository.  He says the suppository gets the area the foam goes by!!  Seems to be working although I cannot do (timewise) three times a day - I do twice with foam and 3 with Anusol every day I can (which is most days).  Doing well - just slow!
