Muscle Cramps

Hi...are you on any meds at this time? (You could consider to put them in a signature so we don't keep asking you).

Muscle cramping can be from a variety of reasons...I'll state pred as the first most obvious if you're on it.

Some might have them with a flare...where are your muscle cramps..all over or just in your legs or arms...where exactly?

Low hydration or dehydration can cause cramping.

Low potassium or low calcium intake can cause cramping.

Hormonal variations can cause cramping.

Low vitamin D or B12 can cause cramping.

Not enough fuel for your body to use can cause cramping...sometimes one doesn't take in enough food or enough complex carbs...

ah..makes sense. Why can you not take any 5ASA meds?

To create a profile, click on the "Control Panel" button, then to "Edit Profile". At the bottom it has a section for you to create a signature.

It can only be 10 lines...double spacing counts as a line.

Create, click save.

I find that if I log off, go out of Windows and then come back on, log on again, my signature will be changed once I start posting again.

That could just be the time variance as to how long it would normally take anyway...

Right, eat bananas, a few each day. The prednisone depletes potassium and causes the cramps. I would get horrible, very weird cramps in my feet and hands which were really hard to release, ugh.

prednisone works against your muscles and causes muscle soreness / joint pain. you retain more water while on prednisone so the more water you retain the more stress on your muscles which in turn causes the cramping that you are feeling. Reduce your sodium intake to nothing and that will help some.

on a side note, I lol when males think that because they have been prescribed a steroid they will magically get buff in the gym. no sir, far from it -because this kind of steroid has the exact opposite effect. prednisone puts your body in a catabolic state and not anabolic like the steroids athletes take. i hated prednisone mainly for that reason alone because I did spend a lot of time in gym lifting weights (not now, in recovery).
Every time I would start to get physically fit in the gym it would lead to the dreaded recurring cycle of flare>prednisone>water retention>sore muscles>stop lifting>wasted muscle, time and effort.
