Inflamed Cecum

I've been having an issue with my cecum becoming inflamed on and off again. In addition, it never really seems to fully recover and at some point in becomes inflamed again. My doctor thinks the problem likely lies in my appendix. Anyone go through a similar issue?

NO....haven't had that situation, my cecum is clear.

How high does your UC go from the rectum?

Are you on any meds at all?

Is the doc considering to remove your appendix?

There is a form of UC where distal and cecum are involved, but not in between.

The inflammation is mostly confined to the cecum, sometimes traveling up to the ascending colon . Since the inflammation is not presently a problem for the most part, I'm not on any meds. My doctor is considering removing my appendix if the problem persists(which it more than likely will)since he considers it to be involved in what's causing the inflammation.

So...maybe I'm not understanding this clearly...you don't have UC?

I have inflammation in my cecum also....but I also have ulcerative proctitis. My dr has never mentioned taking out my appendix...but hey if it has the possibility of making me better I would try it.

Sorry quincy for the confusion. Before I had the issue with lingering inflammation in my cecum, I ended up with an infection in my large intestine that I later was told to be colitis. I spent two days in the hospital on intravenous antibiotics and then continued on oral antibiotics. From what I understand, my doctor suspects the colitis may have caused my appendix and the associated tissues to become compromised causing the recurring inflammation. That is as I understand the situation. I'm due to see him again soon, so hopefully I will get more clarification and what steps he suggests to deal with this issue. I hope that clarifies things some.

You have no idea what caused the inflammation in the colon then? I'm assuming it would have been pseudomembranous colitis most probably from c.difficile or possibly something as nasty.

Colitis..yes...can be used to mean UC, but that's usually a looser term for those who are clear in their UC diagnoisis...

Otherwise, colitis is a clinical term for inflammation in the colon, not necessarily UC.
